Imperials vs High PS Rebel builds

By HRCBlade, in X-Wing

I usually run Rebs but want to try flying imperials for a match this week. I will likely be coming up against a High PS 3 ship Reb build containing at least 1 E-Wing (Corran)

As I usually use Rebels am bit in a pickle when coming up with a squad that will work. My thoughts are along the lines of these 3 different builds? Critique please J

Squad 1 (100pts)

Whisper + Recon Specialist + FCS + VI + Adv Cloak Dev

Krassis + HLC + Rebel Captive

Academy Pilot

Squad 2 (77pts ….. not sure what to put in as filler)

Whisper + Recon Specialist + FCS + VI + Adv Cloak Dev

Soontir Fel – PTL + Stealth Device + Targeting Computer + Royal Guard Title

?????

Squad 3 (98pts)

Whisper + Gunner + FCS + VI + Adv Cloak Dev

Echo + Recon Specialist + Outmaneuver + FCS + Adv Cloak Dev

Academy Pilot

Anyone or does everyone play rebels?

welcome to the dark side.

first, rebel ships can take a beating, as you know from flying them. so you need high damage output.

second, rebel ships can hit hard, so you need lots of hull points since most imps have no shields. this can be done by taking several smaller ships, or a mini swarm.

I caution you against running more than 2 named pilots for imps. no more than 1 if he is over 40 points.

you must overwhelm the rebel scum and use your scrubs to eat up shots and/or get in his way to take away actions.

may the emperor smile upon his new recruit.

Thanks .... Sometimes you don't really see while playing rebs what you would do if you were on the other side. I have generally been successful on the reb side in our group but feel like a change.

I definitely want to play either Echo or Whisper but then I am stumped./ Worried that a mini swarm will get smashed by corran and co.

If he's shooting at your mini swarm, then you are winning the game. I would gladly allow him to shoot at the cannon fodder while your dangerous weapon sits back unthreatened and tearing ships apart.

I like your first list tbh

I use to run something similar

Echo

Veteran instincts

Advanced cloak

Kath Scarlet

Academy pilot x2

3 points left over. Could upgrade kath for boba or poor Recon specialist on echo

With this you have two high ps ships and two low for blocking.

Keep the ties in front of Kath. Get in your opponents way. They are just for fodder Anyway.

Flank with Echo

This build worked very well for me

Another is

Howlrunner

Swarm tactics

Hull upgrade

Academy x3

Echo

Veteran instincts

Advanced cloak

Fire control systems

Recon specialist

This is another that has worked well for me. Echo is a beast of flown well having the two focus is nice incase one ship gets to shoot

If you lose a tie that's fine, they are doing their job.

They are there to take the heat off your big guns.

You may lose one early on, but that is fine. I usually lose one or two but after that I manage to block with what I have, get behind my opponent and echo still does her thing.

She is a one man army.

If they are shooting at your ties the better.

If he decides to chase echo, just keep her away, and send the swarm in.

Either way doesn't end well for him

If you come across Falcons, send your swarm in ahead of Echo. Keep echo at range three and the swarm to block at range one and focus fire fast

I lost echo early on cause I haven't flown her in awhile but I still managed to down hab with 3po with just four ties
