X-Wing vassal module 5.1.2 is out now:

Does anybody play Vassal in the Minneapolis area that could teach a non computer savvy person to play? If so Im me thanks.
I'm still new to vassal
While I have to redownload each expansion, or will that all still be there?
Also my save log files that I've used to create and save my squads, while that still be good to use? or will I have to create new logfiles?
Awesome! Thanks for all of your hard work MuOn. Without this module I wouldn't be able to get near the amount of x-wing reps in that I can with. Plus with google hangouts I can play with my diaspora of friends who have moved all over the country. (although time zones and kids still make it difficult!)
If you ever make it to Seattle I'd buy you a beer!

the first question is answered in the first few items of my guide: http://s93768914.onlinehome.us/xwing/ ![]()
Your log files are still good from 5.1.0, with an exception: if you want to use the automated barrel rolls (or decloak), you need the new ships. You wouldn't have to remake a squad if it was 4 X-Wing (with no expert handling), for example.
If I were you (and I am "you", I have a ton of unconverted squads), I'd do a small fix everytime I wanted to play:
1) load my 5.1.0 squad
2) replace any ship that can barrel roll
3) resave the squad
4) play
Does anybody play Vassal in the Minneapolis area...
FYI, the Twin Cities has a huge X-Wing player base. Between the FFG event center in Roseville and other shops there's a lot of X-Wing played here. So if your schedule makes getting to a shop hard then Vassal is a great option, or even for just playing when you don't want to leave the house.
But if you'd like to play with other people there's a ton of us in the metro.
Here's a facebook page for Twin Cities X-Wing players. https://www.facebook.com/groups/263949347099642/
Ah, I must have missed the 5.1.0 release, I'm still running 5.0.8... that would explain why I've been getting a few epic ship damage deck errors when I load.
I could have sworn just a month ago you were saying that built in barrel rolls weren't possible in Vassal? And that it was the #1 request since day 1. Anyways, that's some cool &*#$ that you got implemented!
Don't suppose you know what's causing the ninja ships to randomly disappear when toggling arcs?
Mu0n said a "sliding/snap-to-grid" barrel roll feature was not possible. The new BR functionality is just another automated movement, same as maneuvers.
Thanks for all the hard work Mu0n! You rock man!
Thanks Mu0n!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You're so awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Mu0n, this is perfect timing for my next Vassal Tournament.
Ok I have a question
I just downloaded the new vassal and when I launch it says
This module was created using version 3.2.13
You are using version 3.2.11, which is older
It is recommended that you upgrade to vassal version 3.2.13 before you use this version
So I am looking at the module page and am not sure how to update to version 3.2.13.
I thought I just had to download this file.
Any help would be nice
Thanks
Edit
Well I just went online with it without updating whatever it is that it wants.
I am able to watch other play and it looks like I can see everything fine.
I went offline and loaded up my squad and it said it was made with an older version, which I then just began another logfile and saved it.
Loaded it up again and no error message.
Without getting version 3.2.13 I'm not seeing anything uncompatable with it.
When I open vassal I see the new download and below it the old one.
I am using the new one which I just downloaded from here and that is when I get the error I orignally posted.
Thanks
Edited by Krynn007Krynn007, I don't think you *have* to have 3.2.13 - yes it gives you a warning message but that's just developper caution from the makers of vassal (not me, I'm not associated with them at all), but it's still a good idea to avoid corner case bugs of the software itself. Go over to http://www.vassalengine.org/download.php and get yourself the last version.
Just to clarify some points:
vassal is a piece of software that was created nearly 10 years ago, which I discovered back in early 2013
it has hundreds of modules for all sorts of games
the X-Wing module was created back in late 2012, before I knew the game of X-Wing existed
I took over the abandoned x-wing vassal module before I put in wave 3 and have carried on ever since.
Ok thanks
I tried following your Faq and deleted the old file as well.
So this message I'm getting is the same for everyone?
Other than that I can view other games and can load up my old squads (Just have to redo the log file it seems for compatablity it seems) but other than that it does seem to work fine
When I spawn my damage deck it seems fine
When I spawn the huge ship deck it seems that all the cards are face up and I have to select all and drag them up to the deck pile.
No big deal, but just wondering that must be the way it is for everyone.
BTW
Thank you for keeping it updated.
Sorry for all the questions. This kind of thing is not my strong point
Deleted this question as I just found my answer
Edit
Think I got it all figured out except for my last newb question.
Thanks again man. Really apprecaite the work you guys do so we can enjoy playing.
If it wasn't for a program like this people that have a hard time finding others in their area would never get to play.
Got to love technology ....when it works lol
Edited by Krynn007The reason why Huge Ship damage decks are dealt face up, away from the deck trays is that it would be a nightmare to program multiple buttons, sending a deck to each of the 3 possibilities.
Want a transport in slot 1? 1 button for it
Want a transport in slot 2? 1 button for it
Want a corvette in slot 1? 1 button for it
Want an hypothetical imperial ship in slot 1? 1 button for it
...
You can see it would become an unmanageable mess after a while. The easier solution is a semi-manual method I found yesterday. You spawn the cards in some empty area, and you dump them yourself in the slot you want
so why are they face up? so you *know* something's not right and you have to deal with it (by dumping them in a deck tray, which will then show up as full with 10/10 cards)
you can see it in action around the middle of the announcement page:
