List help

By shaner, in X-Wing

Hey folks, I have a small local tournament coming up on Saturday and I was hoping for some advice.

Having only played for an out 4 or 5 weeks, I have limited experience. The most experience I have is with the Firespray, interceptors and tie fighters. Limited time with shuttle and only just acquired a phantom.

So I am thinking a mixed list with a tanky ship and some smaller maneuverable ships. I also think having some high PS and low PS would be okay.

List one

Firespray & 2 RGUARD

List 2

Firespray & 4 Fighters

I was thinking of going with Fettigator with either Navigator or Recon Spc & Vet Inst. That would give me a PS of 10 and maneuverability. However, Recon would provide good bonuses for attack and defense.

If I go with 2 RGUARD, I was thinking Jax and an RG with PTL and a hull upgrade on Jax.

For the fighters I would have a mini swarm with Howlrunner and 3 APs. Not sure if Swarm Tactics or a hull upgrade would be better for Howlrunner.

Thoughts and suggestions?

Thanks

I'd strongly recommend List 2; Swarm Tactics and Hull Upgrade on Howlrunner are both very defensible choices.

If you have a Rebel Captive, however, I think it will do more for your list than a Recon Specialist would. Something like Tactician + Engine Upgrade on Fett could also be very effective (meaning you'd be running Howlrunner without upgrades), although if you don't have much time to practice the Engine Upgrade might be a bit much to fit in to your play style between now and Saturday.

Engine upgrade is super nice on a high PS Firespray (Kath/Boba) but, I find that the Firespray flies well to decent without it.

Imho try and go without it to get a proper feel for the ship first, before you start pulling off the crazy stuff. :)

I also agree with Vorpal Sword regarding taking the Rebel Captive.

If you think you will face phantoms then Fett+nav+ VI works well vs them. I love rec spec so I would go that way if you think phantoms aren't a problem. The mini swarm is very good with a firespray. I would try to get Push the limit on howl. I think that makes her the most survivable.

I do not have any experience flying the Firespray, only the shuttle and not so much. However, in your boots, I will try to stick to what I know, in your case, that would mean the Firespray with maybe the interceptors. I will not try to fly the fighters swarm, personally I do not like it too much and if you go to a tournament be sure that a lot of people have anti-swarm list prepared.

I recently played with Carnor Jax two games, one he was having opportunist which did not work so good, the other he was having predator, which is awesome imo.

There is a topic here about this list as I also asked for a bit of help, just like you :)
The recommendation I got was to fly Carnor with three shuttles :), I tried with two and them with one and supporting bombers. I like this last option better.

So, transposing this to your case, what do you think of something like this?:

90 points
  • Carnor Jax (29)
TIE Interceptor (26), Predator (3)
  • Royal Guard Pilot (25)
TIE Interceptor (22), Predator (3)
  • Krassis Trelix (36)
You still have 10 points to fill up Krassis with some secondary weapons...
You could fly the Firespray as blocking ship with rear attack and try to flank with the interceptors; instead of predator you could have outmanoeuver by the same amount of points (3).
The Firespray is much pricey than the shuttle, so you can not have so many things extra if you go elite with the interceptors (Omicron pilot shuttle is just 21 points, plane bounty hunter is already 33 points)
Also you could go with just two Royal guards + predator for 50 points (2x25points) which lets you 50 points for a well loaded Firespray.
If your opponent gets scared of the Firespray and goes for it, you should not have too many problems to flank him with the interceptor and chop him into little pieces of rebel scum.
Don't know, just an idea...

me again, take a look to this post, there is a heavy Firespray, shuttle list :)

Firespray wise, I would go with Kath Scarlett (38) + Rebel Captive (3) + Outmaneuver or Predator (3).

After that, a mini swarm works well, as can 2 Royal Guard with PtL and either Hull Upgrade or Stealth Device.

Bounty hunter (large ships moving closer to first is helpful) recon specialist... Or tactician. Love tactician thse days

Howlrunner Push the Limit Hull Upgrade (can make it a shield upgrade if you sub out tactician)

Black squadron pilot wingman (to strip the stress on Howlrunner every round)

Academy pilot

Academy pilot

Could work.

I would use list one, but put PTL on Jax instead of Hull. Squints need PTL much more than Hull.

Hmmmm....some good tips. Much appreciated.
