"Mr.Horn If You Please"

By Osoroshii, in X-Wing

Corran Horn has been finding his way to the table of late. Usually paired up with a YT-1300 piloted by Han or Chewie. Corran is not the feature ship in these list but reduced to almost a distraction or support role. It's time for Corran to have a list all his own, I purpose this list for you consideration "Mr.Horn Plays With Knaves"

Corran Horn + R2-D2 + Fire-Control System + Veteran Instincts (42)

Knave Squadron Pilot + Fire-Control System (29)

Knave Squadron Pilot + Fire-Control System (29)

Much like Mr.Horns remarkable survival during the Assualt on Coruscant R2-D2 should keep him around for an extra turn or two. His PS10 will keep him shooting first most games and pose problems for the Phantoms. Another option is to take the 4 points from the Knaves and give Mr.Horn an Engine Upgrade really giving him a chance to move around.

Where would you have have Corran in your list?

I have trouble with Corran on a 4 ship list. I'm thinking of of running a z mini swam with him as a flanker so after he hits hard he can disengage off to the side for a turn.

Disregard. Point totals wrong.

With Wedge and Biggs.

Corran, VI, FCS, R2D2

Wedge PtL (would use predator, but don't own the card yet)

Biggs (R4D6)

Corran is one of the few that can pose a threat to a Fat Han 1vs1 by the way.

With Wedge and Biggs.

Did you mean Wedge is a threat to Fat Han? As he only shuts off C-3PO.

I like Horn with

PtL, Advanced Sensors, R2 unit and an Engine Upgrade.

It makes him a real combat monster....

From their, you can add ships to your taste.

Super Chewie is an option for a 2 ship build. Other E's may work or whatever suits your style.

No, i am speaking of 1vs1. Wedge has no chance against a Fat Han, except if it was already quite damaged.

But Corran. He can attack twice one turn, so while the falcon can use C-3PO, he can't against both shots, and R2D2 and FCS allows you to survive quite a lot paired with the 3 Agi dice. The times i ended up with Corran 1on1 against Han, i would just use dodge action (evade in english ?), get 1 damage per turn, and get the shield back up next turn with R2D2.

I use Horn with Opportunist and Fire Control system. The second shot tends to hurt a lot more that way. Or they save there tokens to prevent Opportunist from working. Eather way is good.

I really see a few ways of going about setting up Mr.Horn. I love Opportunist, easily one of my favorite upgrades. I'm not sure if Corran is a good home with for it.

Corran Horn + Fire-Control System + Opportunist (41)

At 41pts it leaves him at PS8 and that can be a dangerous spot to leave such a heavy point investment in such a Phantom heavy environment. Also with much protection.

Corran Horn + R2-D2 + Fire-Control System + Opportunist (45)

4 more points gets him to regain some life but still vulnerable to being outmaneuvered by Whisper

Corran Horn + R2-D2 + Fire-Control System + Veteran Instincts (42)

Corran Horn + R2-D2 + Fire-Control System + Veteran Instincts + Engine Upgrade (46)

Either of these seem to fit the meta game right now a little better.

What is the full list that has Mr.Horn running around with Opportunist?

Corran VI FCS R7T1

Biggs

Blue Squadron

Bandit Squadron

Or

Corran VI FCS R2D2

Biggs

Rookie

Bandit

Four ships, Corran will survive 4+ rounds with Biggs and fire the round he dies... Bandits are tanky enough for 12 points to round it out.

You play it so Corran shoots ahead of Biggs or the Blue or Bandit to get into range one of your primary target. That gives at least 16 dice on that guy that round. Should be enough to put a hurt on even a Yt...

Corran is my favorite rebel pilot. I enjoy running him with marksmanship, fire control system, shield upgrade and R2-D2 (aka that f'ing trash-can when I play imperials) backed up by four Tala Squadron Pilots.

I would use:

Corran Horn w/FCS

Etahn A'baht

Wedge Antilles w/Expert Handling

I ran horn with some Z's this weekend in a tournament

Horn with Marksmanship and FCS

2x Tala with Assault Missile, Munitions Failsafe

Blount with Assault Missile

The idea was to have a fantastic alpha strike, but I ended up rolling awful all day. Assault Missiles without focus aren't as likely to hit, and it turned out that Blount was the ONLY one who rolled well enough to actually hit with his assault missile every time... rendering his unique ability pointless.... the other Z-95's missed about every shot all day.

But Horn did well. Had I paired him with better ships I'd have had a much stronger showing. Maybe Airen Cracken instead of a Tala? I dunno. I'll have to go back to the drawing board.

That's all lovely and everything... but what happens that 1.8% of the time that Corran gets 1 shot at PS11/12? =P Then you're left up a creek with no paddle, so to speak.

The few times I've used him, and perhaps I need to go back and try him out some more post Gencon, but it seems like he really is too fragile to reliably last through an entire turn of focus fire. 3Fvs3 = 1.22 average damage, times 4 for your standard rebel outfit, and average damage is 4.90, basically your full life.

2FR vs. 3 = .82, times 5 = 4.1 plus howls 2v3 = 4.45 total... So once again, it's real close to killing him under focus fire.

So, if he dies in the opening salvo, you dont' get to use his ability, or the FCS, or the R2D2... And then really what did you pay all those points for?

One thing I realized about both the E-Wing and Defender is that neither survive well in focus fire nor are they good at direct jousting. Unless flown with Biggs, you're much better off flanking with Horn and only get shot at by 1 other ship.
