Fleet Fluff For Frenzied Fanatics

By TheWanderingMiller, in X-Wing

I hope you like my alliteration ; ) Anyways...

With X-Wing getting bigger and now Armada coming out I was wondering just how big of a war we are simulating. Does anyone know approximate fleet size for The Galactic Empire and The Rebel Alliance at the height of the OT?

Are we talking hundreds or maybe a few thousand rebel star fighters? Summarily, thousands or tens of thousands of TIEs?

Bonus round - how many capital ships each side field in the war?

If I remember right the Empire had hundreds of ISDs.. and thousands of smaller craft..

The Rebels on the other handndidnt have a lot, until the end of the war.

Anyone else?

The rebels brought their entire force to Endor, so you can get a good approximation of it from there. As for the imperials, from Wiki:

The Imperial Navy was one of the most formidable militaries ever assembled, consisting of millions of warships, fighters and transports, manned by trillions of fleet crew.

One of the reasons the rebels infiltrated coruscant was because of its planetary shield and the fact that the CDF fleet was at least the same size as the rebels fleet and that was pretty far into the rebellion.

JFYI it would take VGER a year + to kill the whole GE. That's if a IMP class 1 can only take as many hits from highenergy plasma as a Kilngon battle cruiser. Which is one, the refit Enterprise could take two hits.

They did bring the whole fleet, they did bring all there most elite.

Another approximation can be found in the Imperial Sourcebook, which has about a 1000 ships of various sizes per sector. Now, at the time of the ImpSB, I don't think there was much of an idea of how large sectors were, or how many of them there were. The Essential Atlas - I think - had many more than the ImpSB authors were anticipating.

But anyway, the different sources of canon have different scales of it all. It'll depend on how grand/epic you want it for your concept of the SWU - or how the Lucasfilm Story Group will want it for us as a SWU-loving community, if they ever give us a ruling on the matter.

JFYI in the post above I ment to say the rebs didn't bring the whole fleet.

Yeah I was gonna say the source you used is out of date even if we ignore disney. My source is the atlas and the fleet\force formula given in the WOTC Rebellon source book.

BESIDES LOOK at it this way, in the clone wars show it is shown to be millions of systems by Mrs Vader ;-). That's stil canon, so I doubt 1000s of Imp cap ships is going to cut it when it comes to patroling imp space.
