I have a player who rolls quite a few of them when using those Talents. What we've been doing is letting the Triumph act as two Successes or Advantage, but I was hoping to get your advice. Thanks in advance!
Triumphs in Inspiring Rhetoric and Scathing Tirade?
There are the mechanical options for spending Triumphs in the combat section that could be used, that's a good start for mechanical ideas, such as X number of enemies drop their weapons and surrender maybe, depending on how many you affected with a scating tirade. Inspiring Rhetoric could be many things your call, like all affected players upgrade their next attack, or something similar.
In addition there are quasi-mechanical effects you could consider for multiple Triumphs, particularly 3. For ST you might just have the opposition surrender "How much are we getting paid?!? @#$% this! Game over! I'm done....". For IR you could have all affected PCs maybe recover all their Strain, or maybe the whole group gets to use the highest initiative result that round or something.
Fantastic ideas, as always, 2P51. Thanks!
NP, enjoy.
Just had it come up for the first time tonight - the PC was using it just after combat (when things were in kinda dire straits) so I let them use the triumph to heal a wound. The PC was just so inspired that his blaster burn really *did* feel less painful.
It has come up a few times in my group - I have a player who's a Politico with good Presence and Leadership skill. I've let him use Triumph to let Inspiring Rhetoric affect himself as well as other players, to extend the duration of Improved Inspiring Rhetoric to Leadership x 2 rounds, and to extend the effects to medium range instead of short (still had to spend successes to affect targets, of course).
There are also suggestions on what to spend a Triumph on in the Leadership and Coercion skill listings. Would be worth a read through for a few more ideas.
I see this type of post come up often and I just have to say I am not a fan of turning a Triumph into anything but the 1 success it is by default. Adding Successes by any means other than rolling successes is misusing the system. This is not D&D you cant just gain more successes by asking for them.
Advantages and Triumphs, Threat and Despair, are a specific kind of currency designed to allow you to still have neat things happen when you DON'T succeed, or to enhance a success to "amazeballs" levels of fun. So you miss your wild shot, but still end up getting so close that he tries to jump out of the way and falls over on his back. Or you hit and while he falls down convulsing from the pain he squeezes on the trigger of his own weapon spraying his own guys in his death throws.
At the point you manipulate symbols to start giving you what is not listed as the real results, you start transforming the whole game into a fully different system.
While all the GMs/PCs that visit these forums appreciate creativity in handling with situations, the dice are one of the best parts of the system.
Good luck and sorry for the slight derail of the topic.
Smooth Talker would actually do what he is asking for in the case of ST already.
