Weve seen what Armafa is using for capitol ships but im unclear on the fighter movement. The bases are round with no visible notches. Anyone have any insight on this.
Fighter Squadron movement
With your left hand, put your index finger on top of the mini.
With your right hand, place your thumb and index finger together. Then violently flick your index finger outwards, striking the bottom of the base. Where ever it lands, is your official movement.
Note: You do not need anyone to make a field goal with their two hands for this game.
EDIT: Sorry ... woke up in a really snarky mood today.
Edited by any2cardsSnark: the only proper response to impatient whining.
We know that facing doesn't matter for squadrons, so whatever it's gonna be, it'll be super-basic.

Well then, that explains why they dont paint the fighters.
I wonder ... different formations for squadrons ... hm
are formations a tactical option or just cosmetics?!

I'd say just cosmetic to add some variation. I'm actually wondering if we're going to see different fighters at some stage. Squadrons of Interceptors, or B-Wings, and such. I really hate it when FFG gives you just the barest minimum of previews.
WE WANT MORE!!
Probably, in part, an easy way of identifying them as well.
I am assuming they are just going to use the range stick.
I was wondering this too. The photo looks like both TIEs and X's have two different formation stands available. In one of htem they are in a single line, the other is kind of a V shape. I wonder if that's just aesethics or of formations will have some impact.

That's... actually a good assumption. If they can pick a 360 degree direction on every activation and move long distances (moving a lot like regular wargaming minatures, in a sense), they're without a doubt the fastest, most agile models in the game. Which is kind of their point.
Edited by kerokoDo the fighters represent a whole squad of 12? I guess it doesn't matter just wanted to know.

They're listed as squadrons, so I'd say yes.
Edited by kerokoYeah, they exist more as 'hit points' than as actual individual ships, so I think we're intended to assume that these are full squadrons.
That said, I wonder if their Attack value goes down as the 'hit points' decrease? Maybe a squadron's current hit points are added to their attack and/or damage. After all, the fewer ships remaining, the less havok they can wreak...
Edited by I. J. ThompsonI doubt fighters are going to be throwing a lot of dice to begin with. Their strength most likely comes in numbers and mobility (and nasty effects like I-ignore-shields Luke).
I hope there will be a single Tie Advanced to replace one of the Tie Fighters representing Vader leading the infamous Black 8 Squadron
... since it was spoiled that you actually can upgrade a X-Wing squadron with Luke Skywalker.

My bet is an expansion will have a TIE squadron with the middle TIE being replaced with an Advanced.

I hope this happens. I am geeking out just thinking about how cool it would be, and it would look good on the table! I defy anyone to fly a squadron looking like that and go a full game without saying, "I have you now!"

... with the two Tie-Fighters next to Lord Vader representing Backstabber and "Mauler" ... maybe 'upgrade cards' as well ...
On a side note, I'm happy the hit points of the fighters are matching those of XWMG so far (Tie fighter base has 3 hit points compared to 3 hull points and X-Wing base has 5 hit points compared to 3 hull points + 2 shields). One less thing to get confused between the two
.
It is interesting on second inspection, that it looks like all the dice have the same sort of 'hit' symbol, so I'm thinking there is no defense dice mechanic.

Which makes sense, since a capital ship isn't going to be dodging too much fire.

My group has been playing my Star Wars: Fleet Commander game for about a year now. I designed it to use the WOTC SW Ship Miniatures, the movement and dice mechanics of X-Wing, and simplified Ship System Displays with hull, weapons, and shield check boxes similar to Federation Commander.
One of the first things dropped from the X-Wing Dice mechanic were the defense dice for that exact reason...
You can see more of the Ship System Displays at my Blog:

Fighters don't use move templates. They have a speed, and can move in any direction up to that speed. They are incredibly maneuverable compared to the ships.
Edited by LTJGBeamLooks like Snowsnadow was right on the fighter movement. According to the gencon video up now, fighters have their own range ruler, a straight one, which they use for movement. 360 degree movement for fighters. Looks good.
Edit: Also, when at fighter ruler range one, fighters are "engaged" and can't move. That's really interesting, and cements the idea that other fighters the best counter to fighters we've seen so far.

My Star Wars wars Fleet Commander home-brew game uses the same style of fighter movement and a similar "engaged" mechanic. In my game enemy fighters in base contact are in a "dogfight". The difference is that an engaged squadron may choose to "stay on target" and continue to push towards the target ship. If it does so, the opposing enemy fighters get an extra "free" attack (with no return fire from the enemy) vs. the squadron that is has chosen to "stay on target"...
I am really liking the design of Armada the more I read and see about it.

Yup they also mention elite pilot bonuses (luke/Howlrunner)... I believe howlrunners was similar to x-wing... if your target is "engaged" with a friendly squad you may reroll one die.
