No Phantom???

By Plainsman, in X-Wing

I'm wondering what different opinions are concerning "all around" Imperial builds that do NOT contain Phantoms in the list?

I'm finding my current builds need more durability and have been looking at the Defender or Firespray to fill that need.

I like highly maneuverable ships like Interceptors.

Durability, maneuverability and maximum firepower are the tripod for future builds!

Your thoughts...

Well, we just finished a tournament today where the winning squad was a 8-strong TIE Fighter swarm. The list with a Firespray and a Defender came in fourth. Sometimes, it can come down to sheer numbers and weight of firepower.

That reinforces a comment I made today prior to our tournament, "The only consistently strong build through all the waves is the Tie Swarm!"

I had fun with,

Onyx defender x2

Bounty w/ recon specialist

At a tourney the other night. The more i use them, the more impressed I am with the defenders.

Forum search up:

Barron's Focus

And

Baron's magic Space Bus

Both solid all comers lists with some room for new toys.

New Vessery + shuttle builds are also awesome for pretty much the same reasons.

Sadly everyone rushing out to buy falcons has made people very reluctant to use phantom lists.

At Nordic championship (yesterday) there were 10% Falcon lists (I had to face three out of four) and about 30% of the lists that included a phantom, so I don't think that Falcons are making Phantoms extinct in any way or form. They are a good counter to keep the Phantoms down to a manageble number. There should be a counter for every list and Phantoms got theirs.

No phantoms and no Turret ships are my rules when i am choosing what to play. Makes the game quite enjoyable for me.

Plainsman, I used Fettigator with 2 interceptors the other night and it did pretty well.

That being said, most players in my local area are choosing not to field the dreaded falcon-all turret list. Not sure how it would do against it.

I had (pretty sure)

Boba + navigator + VI

Carnor Jax + PTL + HU

Royal Guard + PTL

The phantom has their counters and then some when wave five is released

Fettigator seems to hit all your requirements. I like to slap PTL on him and he is strong offensively and defensively.

These days I'm flying the following

OGP + HLC + Gunner + Adv. Sensors + EU

5x Academy Pilot

It's been quite effective against non-3P0 HSF lists, but I'm a bit nervous about how to go about taking down the Phantom, should it present itself. Those are the only two other types of list according to the current meta, right?

To be fair, it's also the only build that even existed right off the bat, so... :P

My 8 swarm got pretty mauled by a Phantom + 5 AP list and a 2 Phantoms + 2 AP list yesterday. Partially it was to blame on my inexperience with Phantoms (had never flown against them before) and so I would like some pundits' advice on what the classical 8 swarm ought to do when encountering one or two phantoms.

I guess, I should have placed the asteroids better and tried to denial their decloaking more.

There were eight guys playing yesterday and 7 of us were Imperial! The one Rebel did NOT have a YT!

Out of the 7 Imperials, 3 had Phantoms for sure, I'm not sure about one individual, but I saw a lot of Ties on that table.

Thanks for all the input guys!
