While the announcement about Armada is pretty cool, and the minis look great, I feel like the onoy person in the world who is pretty dissapointed. I really wish FFG had just focused on X-Wing instead.

What effect do we think it will have on X-Wing tournaments? Do you forsee Armada tournaments popping up? Will players now have to choose between the systems, or play both?

Im pretty heavily invested in X-Wing, and the way its designed you have to buy almost everything to get hold of the upgrade cards. If Armada is the same, I'll pass. I'm concerned that others won't and ultimately the strong growing X-Wing tournament community will die due to divided interests.

I actually was scared about this, too. Then I realized that the game's info page lists a play time of 2 hours (while X-Wing lists 20+ minutes). So if Armada tournaments compete against X-Wing, it's only for epic tournaments that this is even possible.

Personally, I'll definitely look at Armada and almost certainly buy some of it. But I won't enter that rabbit hole anywhere near as deep as the X-Wing one, I think.

Despite everyone finally getting to play with star destroyers i don't think it will get as big as x wing my 2 main reasons are cost and it looks more complicated then x wing. can't wait to buy the core set but x wing will still be my main focus

As has been said, it looks like Armada has another format that does not lend itself well to the same type of tournament play. I reckon the X-Wing tournament scene will live or die by FFG's ability to keep the game fresh, and at the same time balanced and free from powercreep. If they manage to keep wave 1 ships and upgrades as viable as the latest and greatest, the game will live. In that respect, you shouldn't worry as much about what they WILL bring out as what they will do (or not do) to the older stuff that might need a revision (I am looking at you, Tie Advanced, proton torpedos, etc.).

Yeah, I agree. Also, while parents might be willing to spend $50ish to buy their children some X-Wings, I don't know if many parents would be willing to shell out $100+ for their children to play. So, that leaves only adults for Armada, whereas both children and adults play X-Wing.

There'll be absolutely no effect whatsoever.

We'll see X-Wing tournaments, same as we always have, and we'll see Armada tournaments, which will be entirely their own entity.

It's unlikely they'll interact with each other at all.

There is plenty of room for Armada tournaments.

It's no different as if some other system was released by another company.

Regular X-wing should be fine. Epic is where it will be felt. Do I drop $80+ on one ship or go $100 and get 3. Small dog-fighter players will stay in X-Wing but those who prefer Epic will go Armada. Huge ships wont die but I don't see much coming after the Empire gets theirs for awhile.

Well, Epic play for X-Wing didn't really catch on anyways, at least not near where I live.
