Armada great news for x-wing!

By Popn618, in X-Wing

I for one am happy armada is a separate game from x-wing. It shows ffg isn't going to necessarily force star destroyers or other out of scale objects into the game. It shows that ffg would rather go out and start another game rather than shrink down an isd.

You go ffg! I hope this opens the door for a completely Incompatible starwars: clonewars version of the game. Great ships with different abilities but still the same concept. (But no phantom vs naboo star fighter)

Ok, but maybe in a different company and other game, greettings.

What is the great news for X-wing? If anything, it can take sales away from X-wing now.

I think what he's getting at is that FFG isn't gonna try and squish SDs into X-wing because they'd just be too implausible.

Its good news in the view that the Tantive (and perhaps an Imperial counterpart) will likely be the largest ship types produced for the X-Wing game. This will keep X-Wing scaled down to the Tactical (Star)Fighter level rather than trying to fit an ISD onto a 1/270 scale arena.

For larger ships and Fleet on Fleet actions Armada will be the vehicle for truly epic battles; Star Destroyers, SSDs, Mon-Cal cruisers, maybe even Trade Federation ships.

It also opens the way for upgraded or even new character cards...Vader on his SSD, Akbar (if you scream "Its a Trap" you get 1 extra defence dice), Captain Needa, maybe even Grand Admiral Thrawn.

You go ffg!

X-wing and Armada will both play differently enough as to not be in direct competition with each other. X-wing plays out a dog fight between fighter squadrons while Armada plays out a capitol fleet engagement. The dynamics of the two are dissimilar enough to warrant them being split into two separate games. Both for the difference in scale as well as the difference in gameplay.

People should be happy because it means ffg has the rights from Disney now so we don't have to worry about the licence being pulled.

It's a different game and it won't be for everyone but it's a good thing because you can get burnt out on a game if that's all you play, having a few different game systems you can play keeps things fresh.

People want to play using the bigger ships and that's not practical in x-wing so we get armarda for the really big stuff.

I don't know if you've checked the front page recently, but FFG seems to be quite capable of managing multiple games.

Its true they know how to juggle multiple projects and maintain quality.

I thought the same thing. I already considered the Tantive kind of invasive, and this probably means we can mostly stick to dogfighting in the future.

Would probably have to tweak the rules, but I can see a campaign style of play where you can incorporate Xwing skirmishes affecting the outcome of an Armada battle.

Whew!

:o

That was funny and cool.

Or FFG, thinking way ahead of you, having the rules to integrate the 2 games together included in the Armada core set.

Why have the prequel ships and game produced by a different company. FFG would be stupid to do that and your abject hatred of anything prequel related has blinded you to this fact.
