Admiral *Insert Your Name Here*

By Corellian Corvette, in Star Wars: Armada

Simple thread, how would you fly?

--

I'll start:

I have to admit, I am a sucker for carrier warfare, sitting back or circling about deploying wave after endless wave of expendable strike craft while trying to stay at long/out of range with the enemy capital ships.

So even though I fly rebels in x-wing, I'll be flying imps in Armada, if that play style is doable.

What would your flying styles be, in general?

--

Also: what games do you play that are like this?

Battlefleet Gothic for me, nothing like shooting foes from ACROSS THE SOLAR SYSTEM :D

Had a modest fleet of chaos cruisers and a few custom grand cruisers/battleship hybrids.

Imperials? Wow! That was a surprise. I'd expect you'd go in with an army of CR-90's at your side. It is in your name, you know.

Lame name jokes aside, I'd probably play Rebellion; the more ships the better, I say. I'd much rather have a fleet of Nebluon-B's with a Corvette or two than have a single pizza slice. The fighters look cool, too.

Lol good point. The nebulon b frigate seems to look great, and I do love good fleet composition of a proper amount of escorts protecting the larger ones. Having a capital heavy fleet seems odd to me, hoping the game doesn't discourage having a balanced force.

Turbolasers; lots of turbolasers.

I have a serious soft spot for the ISDII. That would be my ship of choice.

I'm honestly hoping there'll be a Rebel Transport that is used similarly to in X-Wing: hack the enemy and act as decoys alongside the craft that bring out the real firepower.

I'm a great fan of broadsides and broadsiding, but Armada's forward firepower is maximum firepower is going to change my strategies a bit. I'll just plow through the rebel formations front first and finish any ships that survive with my Victory's broadsides.

I played a very little bit of Battlefleet Gothic many years ago, but never really got started on an army. By the time I was old enough to start earning the funds I needed, the game was already being discarded by GW.

Armada is going to be the first capital ship warfare game I'll be getting seriously involved in.

Well, if EaW is in any way similar, I'll win by brute force. Lots and lots of big ships who deploy lots and lots of little ships.

So ISDs and TIE swarms.

Objective cards may cause some issues with that.

Imperials. Varying degrees of space death wedges with some fighter support for padding. Really hoping the Empire can get some decent escort ships too.

Or if I felt scrappy, a navy entirely comprised of Corvettes to run hollaring into the enemy formation shooting everything, everywhere. Giving the empire a taste of what it feels like to be swarmed with cheap starships :P

I can't say I'll play one side more than the other. In X-wing, I started off Rebel, and now play predominantly Imperial squads. The prospect of playing with Star Destroyers is amazing, but so is the prospect of flying Rogue Squadron to do the impossible and take one down.

With that last statement in mind, I see myself choosing upgrades that boost squadron effectiveness. I envision X-wings shooting down squads of TIE fighters/interceptors while my Y-wings conduct bombing/torpedo runs. Or even having multiple squads of X-wings take on that task, since Y-wings aren't in the starter set (but neither are the intimidating Imperial Star Destroyers). My capital ships will probably be close by so they can lend a hand. No reason to let a good turbolaser go to waste, right?

EDIT: And with the cool way these ships maneuver, you can bet I'll try to swing my Corvettes around the back of the Star Destroyers where they won't be shot down nearly as easily.

I'll definitely be flying Imps, just so i can say i blasted Scum with my mighty Turbolasers if nothing else. As for my play style, i think it'll be fun to move in close and blast the capital ships, while i release wave after wave of TIEs from the hangar.

Imperials for me. No-brainer.

But how is it a no brained for you? Is it the dagger shapes, or the satisfaction of shooting rebel scum with turbolasers?

I have no intention of ever playing anything 'Rebels' in any Star Wars game, unless I'm forced to (SW:LCG). Why my dislike of all things 'Rebel'? I prefer the whole look and feel of the Imperials. I fly Imps exclusively in the X-wing Minis Game, by far prefer to play my DS decks in SW:LCG, and as I stated before, I much prefer the look and feel of all things Imperial/DS from the movies, books, etc.

Cheers

As many star destroyers (of assorted flavours) and TIE's as I can field.

Why? I want to put the Imperial March on a loop and play it all game as I crush the rebel scum! :D

On a serious note, I will enjoy playing all fleet styles and both sides. As with X-Wing, to much fun to be had restricting myself to one or the other.

Imperials for me.

I have been in love with the dagger shaped Destroyers since I first saw the movies a long time ago.

I love playing big, elite, expensive ships and use them to slag multiple enemies to pieces (Even in X-Wing, I play a squad of three imp ships, 2 TIE/ints, 1 Firespray, to great effect.).

I play Battlefleet Gothic, Imperial Navy as well, with an Apocalypse class Battleship as the backbone of the fleet, Lances and Nova cannon for the win!

Strictly rebel. A single MC80 with two or three frigates as I can and sometimes a corvette.

Battlefleet Gothic=A battleship equivalent, two or three cruisers, and several escort squadrons, frigates if used by the faction raiders if not. (I only play Imp, Eldar, and Chaos normally)

Battlespace/Aerotech=If warship fleets are allowed two to four frigates plus a couple of smaller ships, larger ships, or both if fleet size, including fighters and dropships allows allows

Starfleet Battles=In build a fleet games a Dreadnaught or Heavy Cruiser with a couple of cruisers smaller then the flag or destroyers and a frigate squadron.

I play or have played several other fleet based wargames but I think the basic concept of my preferred fleet makeup comes across without more examples.

The post was arguably not inane and contributes significantly to the discussion... as it was...

Oops I stumbled across this topic while searching for one I had posted in long ago and didn't think to check how old it was. . Oh well I don't it being briefly revived will harm anything

This... is actually a fun topic.

Quality necro.

I would be a defected Imperial, so probably a something-SD flagship sorrounded by rebel scum.
