I'd love an Executor-class SSD, and we'll certainly get one, but all of the crazy nonsense superweapons like the Eclipse and the Sun Crusher can get stuffed. Won't miss those at all.
Edited by TheTuninatorWill we be getting 'Eclipse' class SSDs?!?
I think the best option for players to include a SSD ingame would be to make one as a board piece the way x wing players made ISD's for scenarios . I mean lets be realistic here. An ISD to scale will be between the size of the huge ships in x wing so unless we just throw scale completely out the window a SSD would be too big to move (about like the ISD in the xwing game I linked). More importantly let's talk game mechanics specifically damage output. According to the star wars wiki an ISD has about 4 times the turbolasers and 6 times the ion cannons of a victory class star destroyer. So in game terms even if you scaled that back a bit an ISD would still be pushing the limits of the damage system. Now consider the fact that a super star destroyer has nearly 4000 turbolasers and heavy turbo lasers alone. How does that damage output scale? That's nearly 100 times the fire power of an ISD which is already around 5 times more powerful than a victory class. How many dice would that be? Well direct scaling a VSD has 3 red dice up front, so an ISD would have 15 and a SSD would have 1500. You can scale an ISD back a bit or give it special rules like they did for the huge ships ( an energy system or like 5 dice fire twice or something) in XWING but I do not think you could do the same for a SSD.

I had to read this twice over in order for it to resonate.
While I would love to see an Eclipse class on the board, this level of firepower is just too over the top in a tabletop representation. I don't think that it would be impossible to represent, but not easy.
Heck, this ship class will make the Death Star resemble the firepower of a .22, in terms of damage.
You can always make one yourself
They could always divide up fire arcs into maybe three or four per side. Overall, the ship still jhas a lot more firepower than other ships, but but damage ouput per arc would be low enough to not break the system.
