I feel like I've been waiting for this game all my life.

By Darth Ruin, in Star Wars: Armada

Ever since Hasbro Star Wars Micro Machines (I had the full set) and Action Fleet and the Star Wars RPG, I've wanted a decent Star Wars fleet miniatures game. The terrible Fleet Battles series didn't quite cut the mustard. Given how amazing X-Wing has been, this looks to be absolutely phenomenal.

Finally I can cross the Imperial T with my Ackbar slash.

Thanks to the bright minds at FFG!

I've been waiting for FFG to take this step since GW ditched Battlefleet Gothic. Two thumbs up IMHO,

My wife heard my squeeing from across the house....

OOOOOHHHHHHHH MMMMMMMMMMMMYYYYYYYYYYYY GGGGGGGGGGGOOOOOOOOOOODDDDDDDDDDDDNNNNNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SSSSSSSSSSSSTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRR DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This just capitalizes on my nostalgia.

Two words

Day

Yum!

Its on like Donkey Kong.

Yes. Just yes.

This just capitalizes on my nostalgia.

Everything FFG Star Wars does... they turn nostalgia into money

I'm soo with you on this Darth.

I was yelling so loud with excitement that my neighbors came over to see what was wrong.

So yes, I too am excited for this game. Fantasy Flight now officially owns me.

This is almost exactly the game I said they should do on a couple of the ISD threads for X-Wing. Large cap ships with the fighter units being made up of a number of small models on a single stand.

I fully plan on buying it when it comes out.

This may be wishful thinking on my part, but I think it's going to have a over all smaller model count then X-Wing does, if you don't count the fighter units. That means it will be possible for me to collect both.

I say that because I just can't see the need for 8 CR-90's, 4-6 Neb B's, 4 VSD's, 4 ISD's, 4 MonCals, ect...

I think 1-2 MonCals and ISD's, 2 VSD's, a Interdector, 2-3 CR-90's and 1-2 Neb's. Then add in a squad of A's, B's, Y's, another squad of Ties, Interceptors and Bombers, and I think I'd have everything I could want.

I'm broken. This is too perfect.

Likewise.

Ha!

I raised this topic from the ancient archives!

Seriously though, I can't wait for Imperial Star Destroyers. They are what convinced me to look into this game, and it won't be long until they're released.

Empire may be "the bad guys" of the movies, but they've got the best looking ships, starfighters and troops:

That ISD BETTER have a to scale hangar bay. If it does not fit my corvette I'm going to lose my faith in the force.

Bah, they're all photoshopped anyways.

I've been telling my FLGS to put a banner under their store name: "Resistance is futile."

So many times I'm just thinking "no, I won't buy that because I'll buy this" and end up with buying everything anyway. Luckily, I have a supportive wife. :D

Currently into Star Wars RPG, X-Wing, and Armada. I've dropped Imperial Assault, sold my Descent box, and really considering flogging my X-Wing stuff to be able to focus more on the RPG and Armada. I've fully entered the "too many games, too little time" as I have other hobbies as well.

I completely ditched W40k since I started Armada :D Been waiting for a Star Wars mini game my whole life.

Obviously, there's X-Wing, but I felt it didn't capture the entire essence of the franchise. It's a fine game though :)

Had a similar reaction with the OP when this came out and I was already deep into X-Wing. I left X-Wing to get into Armada because I preferred fleet battles.

Armada has a good engine that can fit into many other licenses. If it were not Star Wars, would I buy it? No doubt it would still be a good game but I probably would not. It's truly the nostalgia that clinched it for me.

I am an old bloke, so for me I haven't been waiting for these games for my whole life. Rather, since 1975. :D

And THIS is why we see all that shaming and name-calling, and why perfectly fine ships like the MC80 or AF2 are perceived as less worthy. The movies set unrealistic expectations and unattainable ideals! Let's face it, not every ship can be a sleek, mile-long, perfectly-proportioned wedge, yet this is the only beauty standard our society accepts. Oh, sure, the petite Corvettes and the spindly-waisted Nebulon frigates are also regarded as attractive by some. But what do ALL movies and book covers consistently portray as an object of desire? Star Destroyers! And on the rare occasion a big beautiful ship such as an MC80 does make an appearance, it's either for comic relief ("it's a trap!") or it gets casually blown up.Bah, they're all photoshopped anyways.

Huh?

I hope I'm late to a common joke on the forum.

My top ten ships are:

Star Destroyers (most variants)

CR-90 Corellian Corvettes

Nebulon-Bs

YT Series

Gozanti

Mon Calamari (all variants I'm aware of)

Tie Fighters

Ghost and Phantom

Lambda Shuttle

Nubian (Queen's ship from Phantom Menace best of all)

That ISD BETTER have a to scale hangar bay. If it does not fit my corvette I'm going to lose my faith in the force.

The ISD is perfectly scaled. Sadly just not to the same scale as the Corvette...

That ISD BETTER have a to scale hangar bay. If it does not fit my corvette I'm going to lose my faith in the force.

I don't think that it will. FFG has said, and it is clear from the already released minis, that they use an abstract scale. The ships are done at a comparative scale to capture the feel of the ships while still keeping them at a size that enhances game play. The corvette and Neb-b are clearly too large compared to the VSD. I agree with their scaling for game sake.
