Armada the Near End of X Wing?

By ghaerdon2, in X-Wing

Has anyone else thought that this may be the early signs that X Wing is nearing end life?

Not a chance. Didn't I read somewhere that X-Wing is the most lucrative game FFG's ever had?

Nope :). Why would you euthanize your prize horse while it's winning the race?

Yes, you did--from an interview with the CEO.

I've heard a couple of other people mention it, but I'm very confident that X-wing is nowhere near the end of its life.

nah I think it more milking the cow even they can get even half the xwing base they have they will very successful and besides I'd prefer this than bringing the SD into Xwing and having it be toned down.

ninjaed X3....man that was quick

I think it's a fair question/concern, but the games look different enough - scale, playstyle, price point - that they can survive quite independently.

One might say... Those ninjas came from behind...

I think the answer is no. (Can't believe I liked everyone's post-I going soft:-/)

Xwing lives on-hurrah!

I think saying such is a bit silly. Armada will be a different beast to X wing, the only real issue will be how much both being out will slow down X wing waves. X wing is a cheaper start up, easy to learn, gate way to mini gaming. I think Armada will be the more experienced harder to learn and teach system but still awesome.

I can see it more like this, X wing brings them in, sits them down and gives them a foot massage, while your nice and comfy, here comes armada to put you in a bath robe and bring those slippers before leading you to bed. ( An odd story, I know )

I think with this their first product will just lead into another, and one won't truly destroy the other, more expanding the use of the IP with an easier to learn and run game, then a more complex, tactical game. If they do it right, they'll time waves so they won't directly compete with one another in the release windows.

I'm loving this news and can't wait for it, I hope it will be as amazingly fun to me as X wing has been.

ha! clever....we shall see how clever you are at worlds!

Is this the 'Sky is FALLING!' thread?

I could see a small fear in fragmenting the player base. Another thing I think it could mean is a reopen inch of development of a play area, since it can apply to two different games.

Apparently so.

Honestly, a part of me hopes this does slow down the X-Wing waves. If the release schedule keeps the pace it's had, and this one has a similar one, i won't be able to afford to play both

All I can say is I may have peed a little when I saw the announcement

If anything it will bring more people into X-Wing. I know a lot of strategy game players that are chomping to get their hands on this but would never give X-Wing the time of day.

Maybe we can pose this question a different way: given what we've seen of other gaming companies (GW comes to mind), is it possible that FFG will run into issues by competing with themselves?

Maybe.

The thing is, as much as this is the sort of game I wanted before I got into X-Wing, I don't think it will actually eclipse X-Wing at all. Did Epic 40K and Warmaster do anything to their parent games?

That doesn't mean that you don't have a point that these are aimed at the same audience. Maybe they feel that they can't pump out new stuff for X-Wing to soak up all our money fast enough without compromising the integrity of the game.

The skyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy is falllllllinggg....

I'm sorry...New Coke what? :D

Just read the article. Looks very interesting. But while I see some cross-pollination going on, it does not appear to be the same game. X-Wing is definitely smaller scale...Armada appears to be at a larger level, given that fighter units are now squadrons and not single models.

And of course we see the icons of the peace-loving bringers of light and justice, the Star Destroyers, ready for deployment on errands of mercy as they spread order and bring much needed humanitarian relief throughout this separatist nerf-herder ridden galaxy. :P

So I don't think X-Wing is going away anytime soon...

I'm not sure they are. X-wing has simplicity and, for a miniatures game, a very affordable price point: Armada is much more in depth and is more prohibitively expensive.

To be fair, X-wing is running out of the sort of stuff Mikael Hasselstein will buy very quickly... :P

1 year 4 months and 9 days till Episode VII.

This game is not going anywhere.
