Star Wars Armada

By Danath "ATLAS", in X-Wing

I hope they lower the starter box price to lure more people to buy.... the price may be a prohibiting factor, similar to the corvette. Once the price gets too high, sales drop off. They should cut the starter set price and make it up on expansions.

My only problem with this is that I am worried it will overshadow or replace X-Wing. If the two can happily co-exist, then I am happy. :)

Do not think so, the starting fee will scare people away.

They should cut the starter set price and makeit up on expansions.

Starter sets are never a means to make money, so the price on it is going to be as low as they can go already.

Look at the X-Wing core set, you get way more then you pay for that. Just the 3 ships alone would cost more then the core set does.

" The Armada Core Set contains ten unpainted squadrons."

Honestly, that might be a deal breaker for me. The capital ships are painted but I don't want to have to paint the squadrons.

It would take maybe 5 minutes to paint one of those squads for table top quality.

$99 is still alot to alot of people.

looks fun, but i'm sticking with X-wing. I like the dog fighting, rather than tactical warfare.

does look very nice though.

Oh ... Wow...

I am so there.

I don't think you'll be expected to paint them...as each ship in the squadron looks smaller than a d8. :o

Congrats to FFG, they are really building the product. I am going to get it.

Hm, it looks like they are certainly using a sliding scale. Awesome news, but I was hoping that the scale would be consistent. That would, of course, make the Victory class Star Destroyer 6 times longer than the CR-90.

A bit, sure, but then they'd already be pretty much stuck on anything bigger. If say a CR-90 was as long as X-wing Minis X-wing, clearly smaller than the ones in the Armada box but just for comparison...

a Nebulon B would be end to end,

the Victory class star destroyer would be 6

And an Imperial Class would be 11ish

Which would still be manageable, if you wanted your starting point capital ship to be as big as an X-wing mini. Even a 2 inch long CR-90, keeping in proper scale, would land you with a ~22ish inch Imperial Class Star Destroyer, if they ever plan to do one. And even the Victory would still be 12 inches.

My wallet cannot sustain 2 Star Wars based games from FFG.

Sorry Armada, but X-Wing gets my money for the moment...

I'm hoping someone else buy this and bring it to X-wing night... hehe :)

That's true. I've never painted before. I'll have to see what they look like in unboxings and video demos and things like that before I decide then. I'd love to own this game, though

Talk about be careful what you wish for!

I REGRET NOTHING! :D

Its fine I didn't want this money in my pocket anyway

I wonder if this will in fact replace epic? Probable.

Am I the only person upset by this news? Will they continue to support two miniature games? More likely I see that they eventually run out of ideas with X-wing, taper off its releases, and then begin releasing this as its flagship minis title. I mean, sure, I totally support this existing if they continue to support X-wing just as much as they always have, but not otherwise. Is this a single-box game? Or will it be a new competitive tabletop game with expansions? (I think that's likely)

Other negatives:

The rules seem super complicated. Big turn-off.

Expensive buy-in price. BIG problem. Means other releases will be expensive.

Includes unpainted miniatures.

Much more assembly, likely that has to take place during setup.

All reasons I don't like games like Warhammer...

Only good news I see: If they are releasing another competitive miniatures game, it is likely that they are not under threat of loss of license anytime soon. They just NEED to continue to support X-wing or many, myself included, will be sorely disappointed.

But, hey, if I don't like it, I won't play it. All of my concerns could be unfounded, and in fact I hope they are! And they DO have other Star Wars games, just not competing miniatures games. We shall see. Just don't take away my X-wing, FFG.

Well, $100 means it's going to be quite some time before I check this out. If I do. But, it does have me wondering just how big that Star Destroyer is.

Still, all those components look amazing. And the descriptions of the commands and movement sound really cool. So much better than Starship Battles.

FFG has how many LCGs? I think they can handle 2 miniature games, now that they have a better idea of the demand.

Yeah, look at their size compared to the dice, though: they're going to be like the size of your little fingernail. It wouldn't be that practical for them to be prepainted, and even I could manage the minimal level of detail you'd want/need for something that tiny.

Another MUST buy

I heard the box is 27 feet long 27 feet wide and will be fully compatible with X-Wing Miniatures lol

Very expensive and unpainted squadrons. I think I'll be able to resist this one.

I do love a good paint sesh but let's be honest-time only ever gets tighter, BUT-who's not fielded an army of less than 50% painted mini's...? Unpainted mini's wouldn't stop me playing....

Well it will be closer to $70 on MM or CSI. But yeah that's a bit of money, but FFG is most likely at best breaking even on the starter set for this. They can't lower it any more without losing money.

If that means fewer people will play it... Well not everyone drives a Porsche for a reason.
