Request for an App...

By winterdyne, in X-Wing

I don't know if this exists, but it should.

We usually play 1 hour limited games - I'd very much like a chess-timer app that plays different music (Imperial and Rebel themes) for each player. Anyone know of one?

Ya no such thing yet best option is to just YouTube it. I am however in the process of making an inventory app where you input your expansions and it spits out how many and of what type of card you should have. I'll also be adding a glossary to it so you can just type a card name and it will pull up the text for you. Later it will include a list building function as well. But for now just inventory and glossary. Don't know if anyone else here would use an app like that but I def need one. In the glossary function I'll prolly add in under each card the erratas too.

Hmm you could always get a small DVD player and hook up some speakers to it and then play the Star Wars soundtrack :)

Great! We also need an iOS app for squad construction. It's wonderful that android people have one, but the iPhone/pad people really deserve a good builder... Any builder.

Nah, the point was a quick one-tap switch between themes. And the timer. We're lazy.

Use BattleScribe! The iOS app works great (including offline) and the X-Wing files are updated quickly (because I update them). It is also free!

Go to www.battlescribe.net to see the app info or www.battlescribedata.appspot.com to see the games supported.

The chess timer app would be very easy to build, but the issue is licensing the music.

Could make it generic and just switch between 2 selected mp3 playlists.

I usually use the online builders but I've also used battle scribe as well, but I like the more user friendly online ones (not saying anything bad about yours because it is good). But I like some of the online builders. I'm hoping to try and do something like that eventually with my app. For now tho it will just contain a way to input your expansions and then based off that detail how many and of what card you should have as well as a glossary of cards with a search function with the errata under each card.

Good idea re: the music. At first I just turned on Spotify to shuffle between the scores, but found some of the music was out of place for the space battles (Yoda, Princess theme, etc..) so I created an X-Wing specific playlist, mostly OT, a few PT selections:

I use battlescribe and have zero issues banging a list out quickly and as soon as somethings spoiled it's on BS.

Much respect for keeping the files current.

There is an app called StarWarsSoundSet1 that I have. It has a bunch of sound effects that I use during my games. Tie Fighters zipping about, shooting, or exploding. There is also some music clips that are long enough to not break copyright infringment. I had issues with ads popping up and emailed the guy to see if he would make a "pro" version for $1 to get rid of ads. He did and I bought it. I just add all the sounds I like during a game to the FAVORITES tab and have that open when I play. It's actually funny when I kick off EP4 TIE FIGHTER ATTACK at the begining of a new round in the game store and heads turn.
