Major BattleScribe Update!

By Dr Lucky, in X-Wing

-- Edit --
I added the new VT-49 Spoilers: Captain Oicunn and Dauntless. The point cost of Oicunn is estimated at 42, but as usual, anything marked with a dagger is subject to change or update when better or final information comes out. Refresh your data to get the most recent version.

First and foremost, there have been some pretty substantial updates to the BattleScribe software over the past month. I avoided posting an update through most of July until things stabilized, but the most recent release is fantastic. These updated files won't crash an un-updated version, but you won't get the most out of them unless you upgrade to 1.14.04 (which should be good to go on desktop, Android, and iOS).
As usual, I've updated the files with all spoiled cards. At this point, I think all the content from Rebel Aces is in place, along with everything spoiled for Wave 5 so far. Unreleased cards are marked with a dagger symbol (†). In addition, I made some updates to reflect the most recent FAQs like allowing Gunner or Luke Skywalker (crew) on huge ships.
The biggest exciting change is that BattleScribe now allows menus to be hidden, and I have taken full advantage of this feature. Now, if you can select an Upgrade that unlocks another Upgrade slot on a ship (like the Slave I title unlocking a torpedoes slot, or R2-D6 unlocking an elite pilot talent slot), that menu does not appear until the appropriate Upgrade is selected (previously, the menu would show up but you were allowed zero selections from that menu). This is way cleaner and far less confusing.
Next, BattleScribe is now fully equipped to handle negative point costs properly, so Chardaan Refit is implemented correctly.
I also changed the pilot selection menu to display each pilot's PS in front of their name (this matters a lot more on the mobile versions). Pilots are sorted now sorted by PS instead of alphabetically.
Finally, many of the validation error messages in BattleScribe have been re-written for clarity. In many cases, BattleScribe will let you do something illegal (like adding two copies of a unique pilot), but it will flag the list with a validation error letting you know that you've got to change something in order for the list to be legal. Previously, some of those messages were fairly opaque, but now they've been largely re-written in plain language, which is nice.

This version is fully up to date with all current releases including both Rebel Huge ships and Wave 4, all Rebel Aces content, and all spoiled Wave 5 content released so far.
If you've already been getting my updates for BattleScribe, you can just update your data in the program/app. If you haven't, you can get the data file here:
Some background info:
What is BattleScribe?

BattleScribe is a generic list-building program (or an app for Android or IOS). You can get the PC or Mac version free at www.battlescribe.net (there are also links to download the mobile versions - also free - from the appropriate app stores).

Once you have the program, the file I posted lets you build X-Wing lists in BattleScribe. At the same website (www.battlescribedata.appspot.com) you can get files for lots of other games like Warhammer 40,000, Warhammer Fantasy, War Machine, etc. BattleScribe is great if you play multiple war games because you can use one program to manage all your lists in one format. Plus, it is easy to use and the apps don't require you to be online, so you can edit lists anytime, anywhere. It is easy to transfer lists between desktop/app, send lists to friends, or export in various formats. It has been my favorite list builder for a long time and I am excited to be keeping the X-Wing files updated.

You can read more about my updates in these threads:
Known weird things:
- Multiple Corvettes - Currently the "Limited" upgrades will throw errors if you have the same limited upgrade on more than one Corvette (like Tibanna Gas Supplies on each of two Corvettes). For what its worth, your list will flag anyway if you have more than one Corvette, because the number of epic points isn't adjustable - as it stands the app will flag any list that has more than the standard 5 epic points (and because Corvettes are 3 epic points each, two aren't legal).

Not sure it has been mentioned but with some of the previous updates I had issues with lists where units that I had selected were no longer in the list but their points costs were still there. I had to delete the lists and then rewrite them as I wasn't able to get rid of the points used up by the missing ship/s.

I'll update this shortly and let you know if I have any issues.

do you think there will be a release for a windows phone app?

Same question.... will the iPhone app be updated?

Same question.... will the iPhone app be updated?

I can confirm iPhone app as updated, updated my bsi file as well and everything appears to be functioning correctly.

Just tried downloading the OS X version, it says unable to load java runtime environment. I'm pretty sure I've got Java installed will have to check.

That may be a bit above my paygrade. I only maintain the X-Wing files for BattleScribe, not the program itself. However, the developer does pop in here from time to time, so he may be able to help. I haven't had that happen though. What platform are you on?

For what it's worth, this latest version seems to have great validation and is very stable, so I hope it is no longer an issue.

Indeed, the iPhone app is up-to-date, and went live a day or two ago.

I know Jonskichov (the developer) has plans to do this, but I couldn't tell you when.

Unfortunately, I can't help much with this kind of question. If you head over to the forums at www.battlescribe.net , you can probably get some help there.

I just updated the files to add the new VT-49 Decimator spoilers. Refresh your data (or download from the link) to get the new version. Otherwise, everything is basically the same from the first post.

Android. I'll check back once I play with some lists and see if it is still occurring. I never had the issue with Warhammer 40K lists, so I assumed that you had entries that became hidden or something similar that were causing the problem.

As far as I can tell, all the hiding stuff is working great now. I primarily do my list building on Android and I can't find any trouble with it now. This recent BattleScribe update has most of the features I've really wanted to see for a long time, so I'm glad it is working so well.

Would just like to say thank you so much for this. I use the app all the time and updated rooster with PS skill and all is just amazing!

Really great what you are doing for the community!

I'm glad you are getting so much use out of it! I've really enjoying working on the files and I use it a ton myself.

I had a few people suggest the change to display PS on the pilot selection menu and I'm glad I listened. I like the way it worked out and I think people will find it helpful. It is great that you do.

If anyone else has other feedback, you are always free to post or PM me. I do listen to people's suggestions and I'm always open to trying to make these files better.

I dont know if you feel that space is a problem (it might be in the future)

PS 1 - Academy Pilot could be edited as...

[1] Academy Pilot or...

PS1 Academy Pilot

Could be more readable with longer names
