Star Wars Roleplaying Starship List

By patox, in X-Wing

We all know how Fantasy Flight Games cross-pollinates artwork and content between the miniatures game, the roleplaying game and the card game. So it made me wonder whether we can get any hints from the RPG ships.

After going through all the books, here's the list I've compiled.

(Note: Far Horizons isn't out yet and AoR is the Beta version.)

What can we conclude from the RPG list? Absolutely nothing.

There are 5 ships from X-Wing the Miniatures Game that have no mention in the RPG:

  • E-Wing
  • TIE Phantom
  • VT-49 Decimator
  • HWK-290
  • TIE Advanced

The last of these is one of the most famous. I suspect they're saving this for the last book.

u havent seen the entire tie series then ;P

I'm theoretically going to be GMing FFG Star Wars for my friends next year when we finish D&D. This is a fantastic list to have just for that purpose alone.

I think i agree with patox in that it seems difficult to determine anything from it given what isn't included, though i think we'll see some of the missing imperial ships in some age of rebellion supplements. An imperial supplement seems like a given to me.

I think what this does illustrate though is that there's a lot of room for them to pull interesting ships into xwing though. lot of cool starfighters and freighters. Super happy to see so many of the YV freighters listed. Way back in the day i had a custom YV-4210 with the engine section of the VCX-350.

You are correct in saying there is nothing conclusive about this list (he didnt draw any conclusions so moot point).

However it could give us some basis on what is rebellion era ships and what they might put in, and this is especially useful for those who dont know every single rebellion era ship. could give some people hope for their favorite ship in the next wave, or the many speculation threads could have a few more pages of actual ideas before it degenerates.

Thanks for the work in compiling it all OP

For those of you who are seeing it, what are your opinions of the FFG RPGs?

I'm an old West End Games player. I'm not necessarily looking to jump ship from that, but I like the idea that the new stuff is of good quality.

I played the WEG Star Wars RPG (way back when) and I much prefer Edge of the Empire and Age of Rebellion. I love the system. Thought at first that I would hate the narrative dice concept but ended up really embracing and enjoying it. Looking forward to the Beta for Force & Destiny being released at GenCon in a couple weeks.

I haven't run it yet, but I'll be running the Beginner Box for our group in September to acclimate them to the ruleset, and maybe a campaign after that if they are into it. The books and the art are fantastic quality, and the dice system is interesting and seems to encourage cooperative storytelling. Some are put out by the idea of having to have specialized dice, I really don't think it's that big of a deal.

I too, ran WEG back in the day, and still keep my books for reference and nostalgia. I also ran a lengthy Saga-Edition campaign.

IMHO, it's worth picking up either the Edge of the Empire or Age of Rebellion core book just to see how it jives with WEG.

It actually jives fairly well with the West End stuff. I ran the AoR Beta during testing and it was simple to convert old WEG modules to the FFG system, since they were difficulty based. I ran both Tatooine Manhunt and Strikeforce: Shantipole as part of my AoR Beta.

Jim

I still have a ton of WEG books so that's good to hear! The corporate sector source book seems like a natural fit for Edge of the Empire.

No, I've seen that, but this is still huge.

I have issues with the WEG design department but anyone who has read any of my rants about the Z-95 will know that *L*

But I have had a lot of fun with the WEG system some short games and some seriously long campaigns. The epic fleet battle against our Imperial pursuers led by the sinister Admiral Lainous and the Sith who was once our friend over the ruins of Corvus still brings a fond smile to my face.

I just went to my FLGS and flipped through the Retail version of Age of Rebellion. It's pretty much spot-on for the ships, except it does mention that the TIE Bomber has 2 variants:

  • TIE/SH VIP shuttle
  • TIE/BR boarding shuttle

Also want to mention something that I mentioned in another thread. The Vigil-class is pretty much the only ship that is NOT pictured. The Vigil and the Lambda. And everyone knows the Lambda.

Just further fuel that the Vigil-class will be the next huge ship, because FFG revised the design for X-Wing and they didn't get approval before they went to press.

Can you expand on this please. I'm not sure I'm following your logic.

I've only played in one session so far but I like the system, especially the Destiny Point system.

Sounds like the hypothesis is "FFG tweaked the Vigil visually for X-wing, had new art for it, could have used art for AoR but didn't get LFL approval in time for AoR printing."

Also, the newest book - Assault at Arda 1 - has apparently got the TIE Hunter in it.

I really miss playing it, but I moved away from everyone I use to game with.
