Can't wait for the VT-49 Decimator!

By Stormtrooper721, in X-Wing

Yeah, I've got one on pre-order.

I like big ships and I cannot lie. :)

It's seems like they're the answer to those people who wanted a Star Destroyer. It's relatively big and wedgie, but not out-of-keeping with the SWU and the SWU's scale.

But I can't stuff hardpoints with quad and turbolasers and have all sorts of energy managment shenanigans going on with the Deci!

Not that I won't get one (tasty, tasty 17 hull, turrets and Imperial only crew) but it's doesn't fill my capital ship needs.

I'm sure the Imperial huge is going to be revealed soon - probably in just one week (and change).

I'm on pins and needles too, and I want to shoot up some rebel traitors with turbolasers at range 5.

Double tactician may look good, but then you gotta remember its only gonna work in approx 1/12 of the total possible area you can shot at.

I have my VT-49 on pre-order like a lot of us but I hope the rules for this will be balanced right that its not too over powering that its a game changer, as long its balanced out with Slave-1 and the Falcon then it will be fun.

Basically this.

FFG: You want your Star Destroyer? Here's your ******* star destroyer.

Fans: What is that? It's cool! I like it!

As a SWG vet, I have a real love affair with this ship and its counterpart, the YKL-37R Nova Courier.

Spent a fair bit of time on 'em both, love them dearly. I'd love to see the YKL appear too.

Question; I have seen a lot of people talking about some ramming speed ability this will have to damage ships it collides with, but looking at the article of FFG I see nothing mentioned of this, so where is this information coming from?

Speculation turned assumption turned "fact", probably.

The vt-49 is the reason I went the imp pilot route when j2l released even though i'd been rebel focused for a good while before that when leveling my fencer. Quite glad it's being released in physical mini form as i've long wanted to get one. Here's hoping ffg continues to grab ships from jump to lightspeed, especially in the form of the incom x4 Gunship (likewise wanted a mini of that ship).

Half-baked spoilers from a game magazine revealed a Decimator pilot will likely cause damage when it would overlap with an enemy ship, i.e. ramming. I believe it also mentioned the Dauntless title allowing the pilot to keep their action when colliding with an enemy. I'm hoping this is exactly how it plays out!

Link?

Thanks Mace, was just on my way back with the goods, but you beat me to it!

It is going to be fun to have this ship. I am very happy FFG made it for real.

:)

Excellent. This allowed me to put some placeholders on the Wikia page .

I kind of have the feeling that I'm going to be a Decimator fanboy. :D

(Given that I've rejected the Defender and the Phantom, I need to have something new in my X-Wing life.)

I'm actually eager to fly it WITH my Wave 4 stuff. Playing 150 points as a new standard with my play-group, I expect to be running a Decimator with two Onyx Squadrons, with hopefully enough room for a PTL Soontir. When not doing that, I'd like to do two scaled-back Decimators with Echo. Different strokes for different folks, though! Hope you enjoy your Decimato(s) as much I hope I'll enjoy mine!

I was wondering, can we save time and just skip ahead to the part where people complain the Decimator is OP and ruins the balance of the game?

OMFG! Imps have turrets and rebel ships have terrible dials the games ruined!!!! !!!!!!!!!! !

Yeah I expect that thread up day of release, well tough turn around is fair play and now we have turrets and shields on our fighters so whose laughing now MUWAhahahahahahahaha.

The trouble with the Decimator is that i'd like to win matches rather than only kill 10 points of ships.

Were you around when the Falcon was released? No one had any idea how it was supposed to earn its massive cost back, and of course those concerns were all spot-on: the player base as a whole has decided that Falcons are terrible, and as a result they almost never appear in competitive play.

Oh, we're already there. Google "site:community.fantasyflightgames.com turret broken"--or better yet, don't do that.

Please forget Prequels, it doesn't belong to this game, only ORIGINAL TRILOGY and LEGENDS, no more, greettings.

Some old ships would be nice- say an ARC 170 or V-19 Torrent in Rebel colors. Z-95s and Y-Wings are Clone Wars era ships after all.

Maybe, but FFG don't consider this period by a very good reason, Not all veteran fans like this period, so keep it away, greettings.

So this kind of has been bothering me. The VT-49 Decimator is clearly a picket ship based on the size of it, and the 0 Agility. I like that. It feels different from any of the other Large ships to date. But apparently it was designed to be an " Imperial version of the Millennium Falcon ." Sure enough, it sports a speedy quick green bank-2 maneuver.

Now my whole world is turned upside-down. Is it a ponderous, miniature corvette-style ship, or is it a nimble space transport? I just can't wrap my head around it.

P.S. Never played Jump to Light Speed (or any SWG), so I'm not really familiar with the ship. Still absolutely love its look!

It was designed to be a Imperial player POB (People on Board) ship similar to the Falcon for Fringe pilots and the Nova Courier for Rebel pilots. It's pretty fast and can maneuver, but not enough to dance around like the Falcon. It's also a larger target, and thus easier to hit.

My captains flew it around like it was a friggin' starfighter.

Thing was crazy fast.

Indeed. I imagine it'll be "fast and manouvrable" in the way the Defender was fast and manouvrable (albeit less so) - that is, speed 1 manouvres will be rare or badly coloured, but mid speed ones aren't bad. I sincerely doubt it'll have a "stop".

Despite the name, agility doesn't just represent how fast and agile a target is. It also represent how big a target it is. Hence the Falcon having only agility 1 despite being fast and nimble enough to keep up with X-wings in the movies.

The Decimator on its end is the biggest ship we have in the game so far that doesn't have the epic label. that plucked its agility from 1 to 0.
