X-Wing racing

Wow, that's a pretty weird line-up right there. I'm glad you had fun with it.

1) If two ships with the same Pilot Skill cross the finish line on the same turn would that be a tie or would it go to whoever had initiative?

The way I see it, the ships should get their final placements according to the order that they physically crossed the finish line. I see "Pilot Skill" as a timing mechanic, not a reflection of actual "pilot prowess" so it doesn't bother me if a PS1 ship wins the race during the same round that a PS4 ship crosses the finish line. For timing purposes, lower PS works in your favor in this race if you want to move first, but higher PS works in your favor if you want to maximize your combat potential.

2) Have you thought about allowing ships to buy upgrades they can't normally have (besides Elite Talents) with Credits earned? Maybe with a 10k credits per point cost of the upgrade since they will only be good for one race? Such as giving a Tie Fighter Advance Sensors for 30k... or an Ion Turret for 50k? Thus really allowing the racers to jury rig their ships for the single race.

There might be some overpowered interactions doing that, but I think it'd be fine to house-rule that. Try it out.

Some shots of the races we ran yesterday.

Hi, I've been running several races with some members of my gaming club and they loved them!

So we are starting a Racing Championship at my club soon (January 2015) using the Vidla Crucible rules. We'll be 4-6 contenders.

I've created two racing tracks (and I'll create more), and have added them to Mission Control (they are called Minefield and Wormhole racing circuits)... I'll create more in the future and add them to Mission Control. I'll also publish a link to the PDF with the circuits soon... I'll also post the races with photos in my blog and share the link (when my full-time job as dad, plus other unimportant things like working, lets me).

Thanks again to DagobahDave and those who worked on the Vidla Crucible rules... great scenario(s)!

I bought several sets of these for this exact purpose but never got around to fishing the idea out.

Looks like fun, definitely need to try out out now.

I have almost finished writing up my rules version for pod racing and would be interested in hearing from any players who would like to try them out. I also plan to convert X-Wing ship stats into racer stats for those that do not want to get the pod racing models.

I have a group of players interested in trying pod racing out... I could also help designing circuits for such rules (you can check the two tracks I designed above and I have nice concepts for two other circuits).

As said, we'll have our first racing championship using the VIdla Crucible rules in January-February 2015 (we have plans for running 3 races), and I think people would be interested to try different rules.

Have you thought about putting this together on XWing mission control?
