Imperial Firespray (Repaint)

By oneway, in X-Wing

Hey guys. finally got my repaint idea settled and did this up the last couple days.

Yes it is a dark color.. sorry my camera washed it a little, the best shots, I think, are the port and starboard shots. the Imp symbols are decals and I think they came out pretty good.

I know I pale in comparison to someon here, but I think I do all right..

it is washed heavily from a white base coat, and I threw in some blue gray panels here and there. there are a few steel spots but those may have been washed out. I did the port and starboard lights with a liquid 'glass' or canopy product, and I think it came out well, and will help keep the lights looking shiny for a while lol.

Hope you like my small project, I had a blast painting it.. just wish I had an Imperial pilot for it, but will use it for that bounty hunter that comes with the ship, should work just fine.. lol

Very nice. The lack of extra colours gives it a more menacing look.

Really good work oneway. Only thing I'd might suggest, is taking a tip from Doc_H Kath Scarlet repaint and adding a light to the front tip of the wings. It will just define them a bit more.

That rust work near the tail is stunning.

I liked where he put the port and starboard lights, then I noticed from another repaint the sides there.. those actually look like where those lights would fall.. to me at least. As an ex sailor I have a particular view of all things naval and these ships need some simple touches like this..

thanks for the comments though, I look forward to more.. lol.. even bad ones.. lol

Very nice bud, well done! Love the cold grey scheme, and the Imperial logos really finish it off.

...Heh. Reminds me of the Imperial Firespray from SWAS.

That the inspiration?

Thanks Jon, I really appropriate that..

Captain.. this was brush inspired.. it just sort of flowed as I went along.. it started out base coted white.. a heavy wash and some blue grey panels and some rust and oily grimy spots.. lol.. and there it is.. all kinda on the fly..

That looks awesome. Especially the Imp symbols.

Thanks tiefanatic... I really like adding those decals to imp ships.. I have them on some shuttles.. even my Coruscant School Bus repaint.. lol

Your welcome. As an only Imp player and someone who thinks that the Rebs are Scum, and the Imps are awesome, i have never actually painted any of those :P :D !

A bit too plain and washed for my taste but I think it looks great for what you were aiming for.

Nice job! Logos look good too.

Thanks guys..

Nataris, as I was getting my idea for it while painting, I got the impression of a ship from some outer rim sector, one that had limited supplies and a ship that did a lot of 'police' work.. a work horse on a far away place. Lol.. uniform to a military machine but not the best kept ship on the dock..

I was thinking to put it in a list with an Advanced and a couple TIE/INs just for fun..

I can appreciate your view, it is rather plain and utilitarian... every time I look at it I keep seeing WWII German aircraft.. lol I keep thinking to add some decals from a ME-209.. I think it would add a sinister look to it.. haha

As much as I love Rodent masterminds ME Firespray, I always found that use of the German cross a little jarring. I can't say why, maybe that it was too identifiable as some "when" else. Which is strange given the parallels.

Still eager to see the results, as well as any more repaints you have.

I wasn't going to use the crosses, mind you.. just some or the side markings from the fusalage.. maybe.. lol.. I gotta see if it looks good, then I might work it out..

Thanks guys..

I hope I didn't come across as I didn't like your work. Definitely something to be proud of (better then I can do lol).

I just prefer more of contrasty look. Just personal preference. But I love that you painted it while having a bit of a back story. It adds even more to it. Nice job One :)

No no, not at all, just thought I'd explain my concept is all.

I appreciate the comments and compliments.

So, youre telling people with 2 completely different opinions and preferences can actually co-exist in the same internet forum thread?

I'll believe it when I see it... ;)

Ha ha.. they can.. some might argue the point, but I think with polite conversation, differing opinions can help each other understand the others point of view.. then they can respect that and move on.. haha.. it could happen.. lol

Where did u get the decals from?

Lies! I won't believe such childish fantasies..

Where did u get the decals from?

I make them myself on the computer, then print them on decal paper.. very easy..

^

How diffucult are the decales to put on the ship?

Does the curvature of the ships make it hard? Do they need to be cut up into small pieces and then assembled on the ship?

I was thinking about painting and decaling some ships but really want to get some info about first.

They look great.

Thanks.

not hard at all, the one I have used most is actually one that is from a company that caters to model railroad enthusiasts. the paper is white, and takes the ink very well. once applied, to clear the white, you use a little cooking oil and it becomes see thru.. lol. pretty cool.

I've used it on flat surfaces mostly, but on this there was no trouble putting it on the curved area. Also the paper isn't very thick so it isn't very noticeable either. I do cut them very close to the design though.. just a tip..

I use the paint program on my computer and an inkjet printer.. let it dry, apply.. no fuss no muss
