That Weird, Black, Not-Quite-LightSaber Used by DeathWatch in the Clone Wars Cartoons

By Corradus, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I know a lot of you guys here have a total hate on for anything made beyond Episodes IV, V and VI (and I will hold my tongue about that), but I am hoping that even with that being the case you might have an idea what I am talking about:

There is a sort of energy sword used by the King Dufus of the Deathwatch in the Clone Wars Cartoons that's black outlined by a white line and makes really cool noises. All I know about it is that it seems to counter lightsaber strokes rather nicely.

1) Do any of you fellow worthies know what this weapon is called?

2) Have any of you tempted fate by laying out stats for said weapon?

3) Anybody wanna give laying out stats a shot now if t'ain't already been done?

Many thanks in advance.

Yep. Stats would be the same as a lightsaber most likely, though we might get something applicable next week when f&d beta drops.

Yeah, IIRC the background lore on the weapon was that it was an early "lightsaber prototype," stolen by some Vizla ancestor and passed down the family line until wielded (and lost) by Pre "King Dufus" Vizla.

No worries, plenty of us here who actually liked the prequels and TCW...

I'm hoping they go more into it in the upcoming Maul comic, which is based on what TCW had plans for before Disney killed it.

I haven't read the 3rd issue, but it's off to a very interesting start.

"Hate" may be too strong a word. "Disappointment" is more accurate, though I have time and again defended TCW as the best thing to come out of the prequel trilogy.

And I, personally, think it's 50/50 on the Darksaber coming up in the Maul comic. It may poke its head out for Rebels, though.

If I were to stat it, I'd just use it as a lightsaber with the inferior weapon quality, myself, to keep things simple.

Well, from the EU sidee it would possibly be a Lightfoil, which are popular with Tapani Sector nobles.

I wasn't aware it was out, thanks.

Well...those were great! Reads like a TCW episode, if you can imagine the voices it adds enormously. Great plot too, Maul is

Mother Talzin's son...!

No! That's impossible!

Curse my compulsion for clicking Spoiler tags!

Curses!

Nooo! that's improbable!!!!

Hey, while I have no outstanding love for the prequels, I do not hate them, but I am a huge clone wars fan. I don't love every episode...some should not have been made, but nonetheless, I still love the show. I have a huge collection of the figures and have been lucky enough to meet a few of the voice actors, and they all have been terrific people to boot. It is always sad when you meet a celebrity and they think they are some royal of holy figure.

I don't know.

Nothing I've seen ever suggested that the Dark Sabre was an inferior weapon to a regular Light Sabre. If anything, I'd say it was probably special in some way. After all, it did allow a non-force sensitive to go toe to toe with Obi-wan Kenobi, one of the better duelists at the time.

If it was inferior, why would Maul have used it against Sidious? Surely Sith would be pragmatic and use the best weapon available.

I'd actually give it the Superior quality if anything. But possibly only if the wielder was skilled with Light Sabre to begin with due to its unique properties.

If i remember correctly Pre boast about how one of his ancestors took this weapon of a dead Jedi. To me it seems to be a really old one.

As for the fighting .. using the lightsaber as a weapon is not depending on your connection to the force but on your skill.

Skill is skill, most Jedis are likely to not be that skilled/trained in it since they let the Force help them. A distinguished fighter like Pre Vizla or Bucketbrea... General Grievous could through training, dedication and experience hold his ground against a Force user.

Was that an attempted troll or did I miss some news about the F&D beta?

Gencon is next week.

Ah, I see. People are just guessing it will be released at Gencon. Thanks.

Each of the Betas have been released in the last consecutive Gencons so the anticipation is that F&D Beta will release at Gencon.

They sold tickets to play it. I don't know why they would do that and not release it.

Actually, as far as I remember he mentioned "Jedi Temple" and "fall of the Old Republic".

And this leads us to her:

TLDR:

Yes, You are right.

I just rewatched it and he said that he got it from the Temple during the Fall of the Old Republic.

I wonder where it ended after Season 5 ....

Knowing the Palpatine of Legends, he probably took it to one of his Sith strongholds as a trophy.
