Shuttle/Bomber list...thoughts?

By shaner, in X-Wing

So I really wanted to try the shuttle. I got loads of ideas from this forum for using cheap shuttles, but I wanted to try a support ship. Here's what I used...and my thoughts:

Jendon (26) with Ion Canon, Gunner, Wpns Engineer, and ST-321 upgrade. (40 total)

Jonus with MunFailsafe, Assault M, Cluster M, and Swarm Tactics. (34)

Scimitar Bomber. Same load out as Jonus (26)

So the shuttle can make 2 target locks on any ships on the board from the engineer and ST upgrades. Jendon allows me to give one of my bombers one of his locks. I do this turns 1 and 2 so all 3 ships now have a loc and they are crawling up the board. On turn 3 they can hopefully make their assault missile attacks. Shuttle uses it's IC. Jonus allows reroll with secondary wpns.

I played it twice. The first game it ate a Corran Horn list with 3 Headhunters.

Second game I faced a Firespray, Jonus, Howlrunner list. I tried flying more aggressive and wound up colliding a lot and got picked apart. The list worked well going slow.

Some thoughts...

I've flown variants of that list before. It's fine until you hit a hyper-mobile opponent, that can simply duck around your fire arcs and slip in behind. The shuttle and bomber aren't known for their ability to quickly come about, at least without stressing the Bombers. Against an opponent that knows how to work Interceptors or A-Wings, it's difficult. But not impossible.

Have fun!

If your requirements are to use both a Shuttle and a Bomber, but no regulations on how many of each, then I suggest you try the following:

LCS - Cpt. Yorr - HLC, Advanced Sensors

LCS - Cl. Jendon - HLC, ST-321, Weapons Engineer

T/B - Cpt. Jonas - Wingman, Flechette Torpedoes, (Munitions Failsafe)

The idea is for to castle up with the two Shuttles facing out from each other to cover a wide arc of the board. Stick Jonas in behind them. Basically the idea is to move slowly using your stall move when necessary to keep your cannons at optimal range. Yorr uses Advanced Sensors to get his action before moving, then he soaks up Jendon's stress so that he can take an action. Jonas then allows Yorr to ditch a stress. Jendon can TL two ships anywhere on the board and pass the lock off to Jonas or Yorr. What this results in is HLC usually firing with TL and focus from Yorr.

Failsafe is in brackets as it isn't totally necessary and can be dropped to play for initiative.

Is this for tournament or more of a fun list?

I am guessing the original concept was a munitions-heavy build. It's workable but I have concerns about:

1) Multi-ship co-dependency.

2) Consumable muniations.

However it isn't inherently bad and looks fun to play. I actually faced that list the other day. I was running one of my fun lists (Vader+Squad Leader, Fett+Seismic, Lamba+FCS.) and he popped Vader with one lucky shot.

the 2 shuttles and bomber are going to get flanked by a good opponent.

I'd advise throwing in only 1 shuttle and have at elast some maneuverable unit to tail after people trying to go past you.

Omicron Group Pilot (21)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
Intelligence Agent (1)
Captain Jonus (22)
Scimitar Squadron Pilot (16)
Proton Torpedoes (4)
Cluster Missiles (4)
Royal Guard Pilot (22)
Push the Limit (3)
Total: 100
Shuttle, Jonus and Scimitar together for a big first strike. (feel free to put one of the missiles on Jonus instead actually).
Intel Agent to help the bombers and Int change position if needed.
Royal Guard does back guard duty, stay behind the bombers and shuttle and take pot shots, and engage any one trying to get behind them. Bombers can also k-turn to guard the shuttle as it turns back.

No love for the proton bomb, its enough to make a guy cry XD
