Shortest distance between points when ships are parallel

By DagobahDave, in X-Wing Rules Questions

If making an attack and the ship bases are parallel, who gets to choose how the measurement is made, since there's no clear shortest distance between them?

I recall reading a ruling somewhere that in that circumstance the attacker can choose to measure any of the closest to closest options.

I don't know where I read that though.

The following was in the old FAQ. Not in the current one. But I think we can assume the ruling still holds.

Q: If two ships are oriented so that their
closest edges are parallel, there is no
single closest-point-to-closest-point line
between the two ships. If one ship attacked
the other, could it choose which line to use?
A: Yes. In this case, the attacking player chooses
the best point from which to draw the line to the
target, which may allow him to avoid having his
attack obstructed by an obstacle.

Thanks! I knew there had been a ruling on it at some point.
