So I've been playing around with my squad that has both Garven and Dutch and I'd love to put vet instincts on both them to bump them up to ps8. Would r2d6 being generic and allowing any ps4 or higher ship with an astroslot been over powered or game breaking? I think the tradeoff of the astroslot and the 1 point tax is certainly balanced for it. Thoughts?
Should R2D6 been non unique?
I would say yes but only if the Imperials had a similar upgrade. I know of some Interceptor pilots who would love an EPT.

Definitely agree with that all the aces pilots should have had an ept. Kir Kanos is just screaming for PTL.
It could potentiall cause some balance issues in the future by limiting the options possible for new elite pilot talents for fear of over powering pilots who don't start with them. The fact that you can only take one is actually part of the cost. You sacrifice being able to put him on other ships with different set ups to use him on the one you pick.

Absolutely this. The opportunity cost of being able to put R2-D6 on exactly one pilot is an important part of the total cost to run the EPT. If it were a generic upgrade, the ability to take an EPT would have to come with some additional cost, and I'm not sure it would be worth it then.
To those who think Imps would need the same option: NO. WHY does everyone want both sides to be the same? That takes all the fun out of having two factions. Just stop. Keep them unique, yet balanced. Which they are.
i think they should have made it generic honestly... or at least give red squadron a title card (rogue group perhaps) that gives them access to EPTs. Really, red squadron is supposed to be made up of the best pilots and doesn't have epts. black squadron has epts.. don't even get me started on how 0 ywings have epts availalbe hahah. ![]()
Try to think of pilots like Kir Kanos as pilots who DID have an EPT - it's just hard coded into them.

I was sort of expecting to see a generic PS5-6 Rogue Squadron X-wing with an EPT packaged with the Rebel Transport--but there's a huge difference between a generic pilot with an EPT and a generic astromech that adds an EPT. The former has to be tested in conjunction with other pilots that could potentially break things, plus a decent selection of strong EPTs; the latter has to be tested with every pilot that can take it (meaning Blackmoon Squadron, Gray Squadron, Dutch, Salm, Red Squadron, Tarn, Biggs, Hobbie, Garven)--and then those pilots have to be tested in conjunction with one another to make sure you don't break anything.*
(*It would probably break something.)
I want to see R2-D7, same ability, also unique, but costs 2 points. So if you want 1 you get it for 1 point. If you want two droid provided EPTs, the second costs 2 points (plus native cost).

tis true.... sigh..
anyways, would be nice if they released a rouge group title card. one can always dream..
I'd prefer that there be a Modification for this. For example:
Imperial Silver Valor Medal: This ship gains the Elite Pilot Talent upgrade. If it already has the Elite Pilot Talent upgrade, it may take a second, different Elite Pilot Talent. Only usable on ships with a Pilot Skill of 4 or higher.

i would think that modifications should be for ships only, not pilots.

It could be a title but I would be against giving ships 2 EPTs probably better to make it like r2-d6 where only pilots without an EPT can use it. PTL on interceptors+(predator/outmaneuver would be almost broken I think, A-wings can get away with it because they only have 2 attack dice and no natural BR but 3 attack and BR would be very nasty)
No. NEXT!
I like that it is unique. I like unique upgrades in general because I only have to buy them once, and the Transport was a perfect example. I got an X-Wing with 4 new unique Pilots (thankfully it just recycled the non unique ones), and 4 new unique Astromechs. Wouldn't have bought the transport otherwise since we don't play enough Epic games locally, the Corvette at least looks cool on the shelf.
So far the best thing I've done with my R2-D6 is used him with Salm to get a PS10 Ion Turret on a bit more durable of a platform than a HWK. Stupid Phantom was making me want to run anti-Phantom.
