Star Wars Rebels First Look...

By Plainsman, in X-Wing

Just an aside, is anybody else amused that this whole mandalore discussion arose because of a hatred of Disney dropping the canon for new movies?

Aye. Business as usual for Star Wars threads. :P

Oh, and don't forget the fact that the JEDI send clones to KILL other clones who desert.

Digging through my memory... you mean Pong Krell? Yes, that guy had pretty much fallen to the dark side, but he is a one of very few examples among the dozens of Jedi masters we see during the series. The vast majority of the Jedi... didn't.

I'm not talking about Krell. I'm talking about the jedi who send clone hit men to kill ARCs that deserted.

... I'm afraid you have me at a disadvantage, which episode was this?

It wasn't in CW, it was in Republic Commando.

The Clone Wars depiction of Mandalore was vastly different from the Traviss depiction.

It was retconned later on to have worked at the same time, but Traviss was still super pissed, and so was the legion of Mandofans.

The Socratic method: making points the easy way for two and a half millennia.

The Clone Wars depiction was vastly different from any depiction of Mandalorians. Edit: And also, that's why she couldn't write IC 2. I will forever hate CW for that.

In what context?

That any new ships from the upcoming Rebels should not be in this game because the team that works on Rebels worked on Clone Wars and Clone Wars ruined Star Wars by having Jedi care for the troops under their command and ruined Mandalorians.

I don't think we can even see the rails of the topic anymore...

It wasn't in CW, it was in Republic Commando.

A Traviss book? Pff, well of course a Traviss book is going to have Jedi be eeevuuul and ruthless commanders who would execute "their" clones if they so much as sneezed without permission.

Take everything Traviss writes about Jedi with an ocean's worth of salt. It tends to clash with... pretty much every other depiction of Jedi.

If you didn't notice, RC was an official Star Wars series, not some ridiculous fanfic.

You mean like the vong books, dark empire, and legacy of the force.

Got it.

If you didn't notice, RC was an official Star Wars series, not some ridiculous fanfic.

The entire EU was official Star Wars material. Didn't stop 90% of it from being crap.

To illustrate, Revelations was just as official as RC, and yet that one book managed to contradict every single piece of character development Jaina had gone through during the entire New Jedi Order series. Everything. Down to not knowing how helm coms worked, despite being a Rogue Squadron veteran.

Three guesses as to the author.

Can they flush this garbage any faster please?

It has to be.

Wait, authors got worse than Anderson?!

Can they flush this garbage any faster please?

Oh, they did get rid of it. In fact, they did before the Disney takeover and Lucas himself had a hand in it. Traviss left in a huff after the Clone Wars episode tore through her Mandalorian empire.

Didn't fix the mess she had made of Legacy of the Force though... I swear, most of that series was a tug of war between Traviss to trying to shoehorn Mandalorians into the Jedi vs Sith plot and Aaron and Troy trying to fix the mess she was making of things.

So your basing your dislike of clone wars in part because you don't like how Jedi were depicted in something else that contradicted how they were depicted in clone wars.

O.....K...... Slowing backing away now.

She might be a bit of a loon...

I thought Clone Wars was crap. I watched every episode since it was Star Wars and I wanted to know what happened, but it really was terrible. I'm sure kids loved it. Not enough of Rebels to see yet to know if it'll be good or not, but my initial guess is that it won't be

Are you sure you can't drum up some premature disapproval? Oneway and I might not let you into the old curmudgeon club if you can't at least do that much.

I hated the Jedi even before i read the RC books. They just made me hate them even more.

Sturgeon's Law, of course, is that 90% of everything is crap.

See, Vorpal Sword, keroko, and Theodore Sturgeon are prime candidates for the old curmudgeon club! :D

All I know is, that most of the upcoming novels look good. It's been a while since I've been excited for Star Wars novel.

Hey. I have soundly expressed my disapproval of almost everything that is in the EU. Dont hold my willingness to build designs i dont like against me. I'm an old curmudgeon too *L*

I've been reading the X-Wing series (I'm on book 2 now) by Michael A. Stackpole. I'm mostly impressed by it, in terms of the technical backgrounding. I'm not as sure that the characterization is as good as it might have been, but I'm enjoying the books.

So, what upcoming books are catching your eye?

Hrm...

I'm not sure. While disapproval is generally a requirement. You might want to say things like: "In my day the EU was good. Nowadays it's just crap." You're a bit too equal opportunity with your disapproval. I mean, if you can't even discriminate...

... I don't know. I'll have to review your application, check your references, and get back to you.

A New Dawn, Tarkin, Dark Lords of the Sith.

Oh, and I'm interested in the Quinlan Vos/Ventress novel they have planned.

Pretty sure the ship after the tie advanced in technology is the tie advanced...probably one of many prototypes and a bit stylized but its an advanced.

Isn't th inquisitors ship a tie advanced? That was like the best thing I saw about the show in regards to this game!

No, it's definitely not an advanced, it looks more like a fighter/advanced mix.

Clone wars was kiddie? It was probably the most adult "kids" show there ever was then!

Besides all the general deaths on the show, you had executions, sabers through the chest, decapitations, kids being killed, etc.

Don't get me wrong, there were certainly lighter moments and episodes and characters, but it was overall far from just being a "kids" show.

I think Rebels is likely to be more kid friendly than the Clone Wars.

I saw several deaths in those first 7 minutes. It's going to be quite the same as Clone Wars. Disney gets pretty dark sometimes, dude

Let's take a very recent example: Frozen. Now before you stop me, just hear me out.

Hans was going to freakin' decapitate Elsa, and you know what Elsa did? She accepted it. Not only that, Friggin' Anna was left to die in a room, alone. That's not very sunshine and rainbows. As if that wasn't bad enough, Anna was nearly killed by her sister- whom she continued to love dearly, twice. And also Elsa froze the entire town, port was frozen. What would have occurred if the situation was never resolved?

Starvation, potential hypothermia, freezing to death otherwise... You know. The usual.

And that's just one film.

Actually, now that you mention it... was that Mandalorian armour pink? PINK!? I disapprove of that.

Sabine is an artist, and more or less it has splotches of pink, black, orange on it. She's rebellious, young, and bright colors are antithetical to The Empire's monochromatic palette.

Also you really can't hate somebody who would likely paint a phallus on an imperial shuttle.
