Wave 5, how to destroy the game

Seriously? SERIOUSLY?

You can make a RED manuever... a WHITE manuever... you can K-Turn and STILL GET YOUR ACTION...

It's all over. The game's broken folks. I KNEW expansion packswere a bad idea. Why didn't FFG just stick to the core set? Game = ruined forever.

Challenge accepted. Lets meet on vassal sometime. Ill give your choice of player level. Would you rather play as the skill player, or the monkey? Given your hypothesis that a monkey can win, I take it you will be playing as the monkey, so you can show me just how broken my own card is against me. Yes?

Something that I think gets lost in a lot of the doom'n'gloom around here: when you decide to go ahead and flip out over some new preview, or announce that some game element is completely broken based on that one game your buddy told you about, you're insulting the actual work of real people.

Fantastic point, Vorpal Sword. Real people are paid to do this, put hours and months and years of their life into it, and people will always appreciate, but unfortunately, there will always be disagreement. If you don't like a card, don't use it. If you don't like a game, don't play it.

Hothie, I'd like to personally thank you for your contribution to the game. That guy's reaction to the card is unacceptable, and just proof that not everyone is fit to be a game designer. I hope we get to fly together one day.

Seeing as how everyone is agreeing that the OP is a good nominee for the Chicken Little award how about we petition FFG to give Hothie his own personal user icon based on his card instead?

Thank you vorpal sword.

Ill let the OP in on a little secret, I'm actually a playtester, too. So, yeah, I not only got a chance to design it, I got to try and break it. So, I'm fairly comfortable with everything about it, enough so that I will put my name on it. Or rather, ffg will, I guess.

If we're going to petition for a unique avatar for hothie, how about one that says: I BROKED X-WING! :D

Omg the Sky's coming down....Run for your lives,o wait its just rain. I really must stop getting those confused.

Ps don't feed trolls, might lose a hand.

I think Han solo with Dash Rendar and Gunner is disgusting. I am not saying this win all matches but helps, anyway my concern is that it makes the game BORING.

Everyone's ignoring the most important thing here.

Dash had a DL-44! Not that thing!

How does Dash Rendar on a Falcon significantly change how it is currently run? If anything, you are giving up amazing defensive options. Dash's greatest strength is causing unobstructive shots. I still don't see the Falcon wanting to give up their actions, with the possibility of damage too often.

Personally, I think he is going to be fascinating choice on a YT-2400, slipping and hiding in the asteroids. Hardly "destroying the game" powerful, but fun.

First, here's precisely what you said:

Now a monkey, could roll dice and win a game.

There is no skill needed to play this game.

Nice.

I'd encourage you to admit that you were wrong, but mischaracterizing your claim is just silly when we can all go back and check.

Second, you really are wrong. Dash makes the game more interesting, not less; now terrain can mean different things for some ships than for others. This is actually a kind of fascinating region of the design space, and almost no other game elements are located there.

You could use this new crew card to reduce the impact of accidentally beaching yourself on a rock, but doing so is actually a cost: you're taking up a very valuable crew slot to fix an issue that could be repaired for free by flying better. What Dash actually does is allow a ship carrying it to execute guerrilla-style hit-and-run attacks from cover. That's not boring at all, at least in my opinion, but it's objectively not something a monkey can make use of.

I have to congrats FFG because of wave 5, it will add two new 360º ships, and this card:

If we consider that new tournament rules favor people with a double falcon squad... because they have better tchances oF not loosing a lot of points, so they usually get a very good tie breaking.

Nothing 4 Assault missiles can't fix! :-) Did I mention that I love bombers!

They had better not release a card like this. A few guys with these, and then Princess Leia and say goodbye to ALL red maneuvers....

On second thought I just came up with a perfect idea for my next Build-A-Squad video!

I love how all the idiots, trolls, doomsayers are up in arms about the first half of the card. While the really good text is the second half and almost never gets mentioned.

Pff, at least that one's discard on use. Clearly you haven't seen this pile of ridicule yet:

Determination.jpg

See this? This card lets you ignore every crit with the pilot trait you suffer. That's 24 percent of the entire damage deck. For one. Measly. Point. When this card comes out, you might as well not even bother with building lists for crits, because nobody would be stupid enough not to take this on everything they can.

(on a more serious note, I do think this is one of the more underrated cards in the game. If you have a point to spare, it never hurts putting Determination on one of your expensive vehicles).

I agree that THIS is what the card will most often be used for. Then, if you clip a rock, you don't lose your attack, which is a nice benefit. Functions similarly to Expert Handling, in that there is a great benefit (unobstructed attacks/gain barrel roll action) with a gentle bonus (keep your attack if you clip a rock/shed a target lock).

Hold everything folks... I've just seen THIS:

Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh...

You know, on the subject of avatars.

We really need some new ones.

I like how every thread on these boards follows this pattern:

OP: I have an opinion about X-wing.

Everyone else: You are wrong about your opinion and should admit you're wrong.

Rinse/repeat forever.

There is a difference between having an opinion and claiming an opinion to be fact. OP's wording falls into the later category. With a heavy dose of insults to boot.

Or at least when somebody states an opinion as fact of the doom of a game we clearly enjoy with no evidence and only hyperbole.

If you expect intelligent discourse from that you are poorly informed on human nature.

hyperbole usually begets sarcasm.

Can I have your ships?

What really baffles me is how every card preview causes a post on how it breaks the game.

First off, not every x-wing player is a tournament player. I am a casual player with a local group of 6 other players and we all embrace each new wave as it adds something innovative to the game. Last I checked, once you purchase a model - you OWN it. No one is forcing you to play with any of the ships or cards. You don't like a certain card, burn it. Don't like a ship, don't buy it. A certain mechanic doesn't work for you, change it. Point is, enjoy your toys, nothing should work you up to where you hate the game.

Now I understand if you are all about tournament play then you are bound by the rules of the game. Last I checked though, everyone has the same options as there are no uncommon or rare cards floating around. Comes down to equal tools but who has the better skill to wield those tools.

When I played the initial scenarios, in the Asteroid Run mission - where Luke has the Determination upgrade - I thought we were playing that card wrong. We weren't and we thought it was really overpowered.

At a low cost, it seemed a cool upgrade. The low cost means that's good for Black Squad pilot, but really no one else. Even Rogue/Red Squad doesn't get an elite upgrade nor do most of the named X-Wing pilots.

So for 1 point I get to ignore almost a quarter of face up cards DEALT to me (obviously, face down cards that are flipped still happen), that is such a useless card taking up an Elite slot, maybe on Black Squad and anyone with two Elite spots. That's it.

Overpowered is in the eye of the beholder.

Cons: you may take some damage

Seems balanced to me and very situational..a nice perk, but you want that action..so a contingency plan at best maybe?

Stay On Target is going to change the game far more than this card... if anything this card is just an offensive booster. We see a ton of offensive boosters. Stay on Target has the capability in some lists, to take maneuvering out of the game almost completely.

The game will always be about maneuvering. If it wasn't, turret weapons wouldn't exist to cover those X-wings' asses.

Stay on Target penalizes players for not choosing to chase after highest pilot skill. Making the game much more balanced. 3 rebel lists with out YTs (either) will be able to handle 5 rebel lists, because we are all the Fettigator. People run the Super-Hans because they frightened by their ability to accurately predict what might happen with a phantom or an interceptor and maneuver properly.

When is the last time you saw a missile on a YT? How is the YT rewarded for their maneuvering well? (Especially now that Expert handling has been nerfed?) YT's didn't break the maneuvering dynamic, and stay on target won't either. Outmaneuver says everything.

I also can personally assure everyone that ramming Super-Han with the Decimator and handing him an extra stress for shooting rebel captive, along with Mara Jade on top of his ptl is going to be very satisfying.

I for one love the balance! Dash the ship can park on an asteroid and barrel roll of (lest he loses his attack). Crewman Dash can park on an asteroid, lose an action and potentially take a damage, but still attack!

Love how they balanced the two and announced this way after the Dash pilot card.

Looking forward to playing it and against it!

And... Debris fields!
