Wave 5, how to destroy the game

By negroscuro, in X-Wing

I have to congrats FFG because of wave 5, it will add two new 360º ships, and this card:

Now a monkey, could roll dice and win a game.

There is no skill needed to play this game.

Nice.

If we consider that new tournament rules favor people with a double falcon squad... because they have better tchances oF not loosing a lot of points, so they usually get a very good tie breaking.

You are sorely overestimating how often this card will be played. As usual, it is good, and cheap, but not game breaking, just like Stay on Target.

OK

(bonk) Ow!

(bonk) Ow!! Wtf!?!

(bonk) @!#$^ it!... I hate when the sky is falling!...

I understand you are upset, but this card is limited in several ways, the biggest way being that it is unique. The second being that there are limited crew slots on the turreted ships that can take him. This guy could actually take the place of a gunner on a falcon, so he might cause his player to deal LESS damage.

Additionally, there are also debris clouds that come with wave 5, which for starters, are shaped very different and are going to change the dynamic of navigating through them so much... it's too soon to judge this guy THAT harshly.

I'm not worried about it...

Game was broken in Wave I with Marksmanship where you could turn eyes to hits/crits WITHOUT a focus token.

Can you image a game that allows that!

Indeed, you still take the consequences of the action to land on an obstacle.

Like Engine25 said.. not a game breaker..

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I'm sorry. But this is so hilarious. I thought we might have reached the plateau of hyperbole. Guess not. Dash does not even come close. Do you understand you still take a damage and lose your action? He even adds some new strategy for the ship to play hide among the asteroids. And let's not forget the opportunity cost of giving up other really good upgrades to include Dash.

I need to start a thread claiming that Mara Jade is broken now...

Yeah, it's a good thing C3PO and Han Solo are unique. No one will want to put those in Falcons...

Oh good another one of these threads. I grow ever so tired of all the negativity on the forums as of late. There is not even enough information (No dial reveal, no imperial reveals) to qualify this card as overpowered (which it most assuredly isn't). I'm guessing you play interceptors or phantoms.

Hey, I like a good calamity as much as the next guy... I'm usually in the doomshuttle myself but this isn't anywhere close to as bad as some of the other things coming.

Remember people, never feed the trolls, they sustain themselves on your attention.

Can't wait for the reaction when people learn about Wave 5's Captain Oicunn and the Dauntless title card...

The imperial previews have been lacking a lot these last 2 waves havn't they...

Nobody can put them in Falcon(s), they are limited one per.

Jeez. Some people overreact to every. Single. Card.
It's in no way game-breaking. Deal with it.

I thought we might have reached the plateau of hyperbole. Guess not.

I agree... I also question if the OP even understands how this card works, or even what is in Wave 5... If you could have Dash as both pilot and crew, then perhaps the OP would have a point, but even then Dash + Dash would hardly be game breaking.

Indeed they have. I for one look forward to the dauntless and Oicaunn or however his name is spelled. I will run over you deal you damage and with mara jade equipped now give you stress and then I will have a seismic charge equipped to either make you keep your stress and you run from me only to get shot by my huge guns or you clear your stress and I crap a bomb out behind me and have it splodinate on you all in the name of glorious commerce. That's the plan on paper anyway.

You can't group this card into the same category as Stay on Target.

Almost every ship-type has an EPT, very few have crew.

Stay on Target isn't Unique, this card is.

If the fear of this card on the falcon is "gamebreaking", that is laughable since you are talking about a 50-something point ship with upgrades.

Stay On Target is going to change the game far more than this card... if anything this card is just an offensive booster. We see a ton of offensive boosters. Stay on Target has the capability in some lists, to take maneuvering out of the game almost completely.

I was crying that the sky was falling over Stay on Target at first... however after some calming, I don't think it will become the meta for people to run 3 high Pilot Skill ships each with Stay on Target - and abuse it such that you will never have any shots. Do do such a thing would usually end up forcing them into strange positioning and would deny BOTH players a shot. A build that runs like this has potential to stall, and to force a draw, but not to consistently win - so I doubt it'll truly break the game.

Now Dash Rendar on the other hand isn't even close to gamebreaking. Not at all.

so you can show me just how broken my own card is against me. Yes?

Hothie, just because I think it needs to be said here.

I love your card. I like Stay on Target too, and I think both are going to add things to the game without being broken or even really OP'ed.

I see Dash a bit like Outmaneuver. Instead of lowering the agility of the target in specific circumstances, it denies an additional agility die that would come into play in an even more specific set of circumstances. I can definitely see it being used startegically, but so can any upgrade. Yes, even Expose.

Agreed. I have liked both cards designed by the world champions as both are adding more layers to this game which in the long run will help it avoid stagnation. Excellent cards and excellent work for an excellent game.

Challenge accepted. Lets meet on vassal sometime. Ill give your choice of player level. Would you rather play as the skill player, or the monkey? Given your hypothesis that a monkey can win, I take it you will be playing as the monkey, so you can show me just how broken my own card is against me. Yes?

Something that I think gets lost in a lot of the doom'n'gloom around here: when you decide to go ahead and flip out over some new preview, or announce that some game element is completely broken based on that one game your buddy told you about, you're insulting the actual work of real people.
