Most Underrated Pilot

By Lagomorphia, in X-Wing

I know I really wish I could make Colonel Jendon work... and the ST-321 title... and Weapons Engineer...

Why you can't make him work?

Is his ability too short-ranged or is this combo too expensive? Or even both?

I think it's mostly the range restriction, the Shuttle has a hard time keeping up with the ships that would benefit the most. If only his ability worked at Range 1-2 it would be great support ship.

I play Jendon as a mother ship, to emphasize Hit and Run tactics in the rest of my squad.

Specifically, they run back to Jendon, grab another TL, and re-enter the fray with a better Hit.

He plays nicely with low PS Interceptors, particularly in Epic.

Jendon itself might be unterrated. But yet again, its the title that make him too expensive while range 1 for his ability is too low.

I don't like Jendon flying in close formation with 3 Tie Bombers. It just won't work well. Better take Jonus as support.

I also tried Jendon + Title + Gunner + FCS with 3 Alphas + Stealth and had some success.

I would like him far better if you could take Jendon+Title and 3 Sabers + PTL, but you can't since this would be 101 points.

Yorr or a generic shuttle with Fleet Officer and Advanced Sensors are better supporters.

Maybe Jendon will see some action with 3 Tempest + ATC:

Something like:

Jendon + Title + Vader + FCS

3 x Tempest + Title + ATC

Buzzsaw Jendon might be, fun to run with Vader and maybe Maarek. That way they be able to focus, evade and barrel roll, getting their ATC locks long before they're even in range.

Not sure I agree that Salm is underrated. His ability is amazing (and I love the guy), but he is overpriced and dependent on munitions. When I say overpriced, I'm referring to the base Y-wing being expensive, him paying 1 point for his ability while NOT getting an EPT, his ability working best with overpriced munitions, and his lack of synergy with the BTL-A4 title.

Poor Salm is probably just going to be one of those pilots that won't be fixed without a major munitions overhaul--which is a little disheartening considering he's the premier Y-wing pilot. The BTL title made me pretty happy, but it really didn't do much for Salm.

I think Hobbie or Night Beast are probably the most truly underrated.

Night Beast sucks somewhat because he don't get the focus when he clears stress.

I think jendon with st title and fleet officer and weapons engineer is really sweet with bombers and vessery, but the configuration is too expensive in a 100 point game. It's outstanding in a 125 or 150 point game, as it throws out 2 focus and a TL, which really helps lower PS bombers set up their alpha strike. I also put EU on him, and sometimes a cannon.

(Hangs head in shame) outer rim smuggler. I freaking love him and everybody gives him crap. Pilot skill one,I know, two attack, I know, but 27 points, turret primary, two crew slots and 10 hit points he is a beast. You don't have to worry about shooting last, he is going to live to see his turn. Run two of them and your choice of power character and people will get hurt trying to choose who to ignore, the pair of yt or the name pilot in whatever "if you force your enemy to make a choice they will choose incorrectly every time" I have had a lot of fun running this list

The bad thing about 2 attack dice turret is that once Autothruster come out, they will be nearly useless against 3 agility+Autothruster ship.

True but auto thrusters will not be that big of a threat in my opinion. When it is present on the table yes but you can only equip it with a ship that already has boost available to it most ships don't currently have the ability to equip two modifications to take EU and AT so I think more often than not it won't be seen unless the meta shifts to only fielding ships that have boost which it could do I suppose. And if that happened than I could see it losing its edge completely

Delta squadron TIE Defenders.

3 of these with ion cannons can ruin someones day fast.

Not sure if you were being sarcastic there, but think about it, ion on the pass, k turn behind. Enemy arc dodgers can arc dodge a lot less when ioned, and with 4 dice up close... yeah they do the job.

In theory thats right.

Have you ever tried it?

I have.. As long as my initial ion goes off I can bring on the hurt fast.

I've modified the list for tourney purposes and on a jan the 28th store I will be fielding 2 delta/ions, Backstabber and a TIE Bomber with Flachettes - it's objective being to stression enemy key ships where available.

Designated Dirk squadron

I really want to play Imperial, it's my thing. I do have another build which is Rebel, consisting of TarnR7, Biggs, and 2X GoldIONFlachette. I call them **** squadron. it's starred, and very similarly spelled to Dirk.

Mentioning this as i want to test against this squadron for effectiveness, will ask a friend to try it friday.
