Max guns list

By Biophysical, in X-Wing

I was playing around with this idea. It's all old cards, so someone has probably already tried this, but I figured I'd toss it out here. The point is to have as many 3-dice attacks as possible, while still using a few points for defense to keep the list from being too fragile.

Backstabber 16

Alpha Squadron Pilot, Stealth Device x 4 = 84

The alternative is to trade out Stealth Devices for Hull Upgrades. I like the SD in this better, I think, because the Alphas are just gunned up TIE fighters most of the time in this list, so you'll be focusing a lot, and with PS1, you'll know if you need to keep the Focus for your green dice. Anyway, it's going to be 5 3 dice attacks, and it's going to be work to take down with 4 of the 5 at 4 AGI. The only other way to get 5 3-dice attacks is to use all Interceptors, but then you can't take as many defensive upgrades. Backstabber just seemed like a fit.

Maybe drop one stealth and bump backstabber to Howlrunner.

Then fly a 3 by 2 formation with the 3 alphas with stealth in front, and howl and the naked alpha in back.

Sorry to be blunt, but you are correct that it has been tried; it's called the Swarm and has been a top tournament presence for awhile now. However it usually contains Howlrunner and about another 5-6 ships.

Swarms use 2 dicers usually: he's going specifically for three dice ships (or almost) here.

If you're after maximum firepower though, the TIE fighter and Z-95 while seemingly weak are actually better based on the sheer number you can take.

TIE Phantoms throw 4 attack dice. I wouldn't recommend it, but if you want maximum firepower...

Sigma Squadron Pilot x 4

I like throwing 1-2 squints in for fun because they either force your opponent to try and go after a very agile target or ignore it and risk 4 dice at range 1 that has all the moves to keep you in arcs. They are just too easily killed to put too much % of my list into.

Heh, came in here just to suggest this. I've never flown it but it sounds funny. And unless I'm missing something obvious it's the most dice you can have (tied with 8 TIEs) in a 100 pt list.

Flown it. It's really good. You can mostly ignore your cloaking actions and just go straight for the kill.

Technically, at range 1 8 Ties would stil be more at 24 dice!

I would disagree with you here.. the OP was asking about TIEs with SD on them.. not a Swarm list.. it's a mini swarm with SD.. kinda different...

Plainsman, I read that thread, and while interesting, I'm not sure it's applicable to this list. I'm basically looking at the maximum number of 3 dice ships, with the rest of the points sunk into defensive upgrades. You guys were basically talking about elite PTL interceptors, which are a bit different.

In regards to the swarm issue. I don't think think of the list as a swarm. It's not formation dependent and it packs substantially larger guns. 5x3 dice attacks should do a lot more damage than 6-7 2 dice attacks, even with re-rolls (depending on target, of course). I'm not knocking swarms, they're great, I just don't think it's the same type of list. The addition of Howlrunner would certainly add some firepower (4 3-dice attacks with re-roll is a ton of firepower), but I avoid her, just from a personal dislike of formation flying.

4 Sigmas intrigues me. It's got a similar idea. 5x3 dice attacks vs 4x4 dice attacks is pretty close, I think, probably with an edge to the Phantoms, although they'll lose firepower faster. Maybe combine the two and do 4 naked Alphas and a Sigma with Stygium Particle Accelerator. 4x3 + 1x4?

 just realized that I misread that completely; thought the OP typed Academy Pilots, not Alpha Pilots. My bad.

Actually the point we ended up at was that after 2 Interceptors, a squad is getting diminishing returns both offensively and defensively. You lose 1 decked out interceptor in your list, you are worse off than losing any one ship in the builds we were considering. The maximum a build should have is two interceptors.

I think the answer here is:

2x OGP + HLC

2x OGP

That's 14 dice and 40 hp!....... then you're screwed after the first engagement, but those are just details right?
