My Next Ship...

By Bohrdumb, in X-Wing

So at this point (ignoring my signature for a moment) I have every small ship in the game (Zs and Es will be here tomorrow).

So my next purchase is going to be a large ship. And since I know my wife will be thrilled to see more ships come home, I want to make sure I get good bang for my buck.

I normally play Rebels, so the Falcon is an obvious choice, but I don't want to be derivative and run Falcon + Escort lists if I can help it. If I run a Falcon, it'll need to have a unique reason to be in the list.

So honestly, I may be leaning a bit more toward the Imp side(although Airen Cracken really appeals to me!). The Firespray is a seriously good choice, front/rear firing arcs and a decent dial make it a good choice in a game that is currently stressing arc-dodging. Plus I get a Stealth Device, of which I have none.

And of course, there's the Lambda. Not a sexy ship by any stretch, but it does have some good survivability and functionality. It would let me build a Doom shuttle, which I fancy running with some Phantoms. AND I get Advanced Sensors, which are sexy!

Other things I should be considering?

The firespray also gives you the gunner crew card. The falcon gives you two copies of engine upgrade, the shuttle gives you rebel captive.

Falcon is the only ship with the vaunted Engine Upgrade. Two of them. Without EU, the Space Cow (Lambda Shuttle) is more like a Space Whale. Though if we're talking home games with proxies...not such a big matter. And that 360 firing arc is one of these most powerful abilities in the game.

With the Systems slot on the Space Cow I usually fill it with the Fire Control System. Free re-roll when you fire, even if stressed/bumped.

Firespray is an excellent ship. Especially if you like iconic pilots. Imperials only have two: Vader (TIE-A) and Fett (Firespray).

No systems slot...but if you have all the little ships you could slip him Predator for a modest re-roll and use his actions for something else.

I tend to run wonky lists (last time it was Vader, Fett, and Space Cow) and I find unorthodox lists seem to throw folks off as much as making a lucky guess with the meta-counter. Played a free-for-all against a Echo list and a Defender-HLC list. Both of the other players ganged up on me. I took out both the Phantom the Defender and the bulk of the opposing ships. By the time I resigned (had to leave) I had Fett left and the other players were down to single Academy Pilots.

I'm a huge fan of the Firespray, for all-around awesomeness. It can pivot, tactically or strategically, from being a middle-linebacker style rushing brawler to a deft blitzing safety, wrapping around the corner of your opponent's line to attack from behind.

As noted above, it also comes with a Gunner, which is one of the better upgrades in the game for ensuring that your investment in a Large ship isn't wasted by a bad attack roll.

Good input, all! Unfortunately I'm not sure you've helped me make a decision though! Probably between Falcon and Firespray, but who knows.

All of them, I suggest all of them and at least two of each...

And my wife has not seen my box of minis lately so don't tell her! LOL!

Seriously though, Falcon is the obvious choice, followed up by the Fire Spray. The Shuttle's main claim to fame prior to Wave 4 was the Advanced Sensors, now all it has is Rebel Captive. Good solid third place for me.

If you're playing Rebels more than Imps I'd get the Falcon first then the firespray. I'd save the shuttle for last.

The problem is that if I get the Falcon, I'll need to fly Rebs and won't get to play with my new Phantoms.

/Also, I'll be at GnS tonight. Hoping to pick up a few games if any of you NOVA people will be around.

Get the Falcon! It's the only Large ship I have two of! You have plenty of Imperials for good builds at the moment, but the Falcon's cards will help them even more! VI and EU!

Firespray. Best ship in the game in my opinion.
