It depends very much on whether the blue line is obstructing an attack or denying an attack completely. Given the fact it seems to deny the attack completely it isn't obstructing the attack, but the line if fire. Dash specifically says attacks.The line is not obstructing the attack, it's before the attack. I think we're looking at two different defintions for the word obstructed. I'd need to look closely at the attacking section and how it declares if attacks are obstructed. But I don't think it works that way.Here's an interesting question:
Can the corvette's primary turret fire across the blue center line if Dash is on board?
From the rulebook;
"When the CR90 targets a ship outside of the CR90's firing arc, measure a line from the exact center of the chosen ship's base to the exact center of the CR90's fore section base. If this line is not obstructed by the blue center line of the CR90's ship token, the CR90 can declare the chosen ship as the defender."
Why wouldn't Dash work for both definitions?
He doesn't specify.

The attack isn't being obstructed.
The opportunity to declare the attack is being obstructed.
Makes sense.
Dash Rendar Preview
Another Falcon buff. I can see a tactic where you line asteroids on your side and just drive the Falcon back in forth behind the asteroid barricade. If your opponent moves across the barricade, then move to the other side.
The attack isn't being obstructed.
The opportunity to declare the attack is being obstructed.
Yeah the blue line isn't causing the attack to be obstructed in the normal sense. It actually prevents the primary from shooting at anything that is behind the blue line as it were.
Another Falcon buff.
I dunno about that, the Falcon can only have 2 crew and I'd have to think hard about which one I'd give up for the sake of Dash.
I'd love to play against a falcon with this crew member. Means everytime they go on a asteroid I can do an extra 1-2 damage against them. 1 from not having actions to take evade with mf title, and potentially a second from the asteroid.

This card actually makes for a nice combo with a rebel transport as a shield. The outrider with HLC turret and Dash crew, flying behind a GR-75 Transport can be great. People likely won't be able to close to within range 1 of you, and you'll get extra defense when being shot at.
You are dead wrong marksoul. You are still getting same damage on falcon who can't drive, but with dash it will shoot back, so its better already. I value second ability much higher compared to first. Stopping on asteroid is a mistake what happens sometimes. And how often do you want to shoot something behind asteroid, but change your targeting priorities? Not any more

I was referring more to the people who are talking about flying their ship through asteroids left and right than the ones who take it for the rare chance they land on one.
But in either case I'd still prefer it, as it means one less crew slot, so either 3po or gunner has to go.

Great idea! Toss on an EM Emitter and it gets dirty.
Maybe fly Biggs back there too...

Thanks for the kind words. As I said in the article, we tried not to make it too broken by limiting the effects to a single ship, whether it be dash pilot or crew. And I would just ask that you give it a try before condemning it to keeping Maarek Steele company. I just wanted to add a new mechanic to the game rather than making your squad an auto win if you include him. I know it won't be on most squads, but I think there are some times when you'll wish you had him.
I could see Dash flying around on a HWK amongst the asteroids.
Yeah, I saw it. But how many people are really going to plan on keeping a ship with a crew slot behind asteroids all game to take advantage of Dash Rendar, though?
To be honest, at first I really liked the idea in the preview article of Dash on a modified B with advanced sensors.
The B-Wing's dial coupled with AS barrel rolling means you could potentially keep an asteroid between you and your opponents indefinitely...
...however, that particular combo would be at the cost of offensive actions, and would only raise your defence to 2. It's an interesting mechanic, but it's situational and like a lot of situational upgrades, it might not even come into play.
I had thought about this, and then I came up with this idea. Pricey, but he's super flexible:
Keyan Farlander 29
++Stay on Target 2
++Advanced Sensors 3 (maybe not, preference based and adds unnecessary points with SoT, but would def be helpful)
++B-wing/E2 1
++Dash Rendar (Crew) 2
37 points for a ship that can always get a shot, is always focused, isn't terribly bothered by asteroids, and ignores the enemy's defense bonus on obstructed attacks. Expensive but quite versatile. Hell, if you're great at maneuvering, throw on a Heavy Laser Cannon for shigs. Extra attack die and denies bonuses from both range AND obstacles.
Normally, I wouldn't spend that many points on a small base, but a reliable named Phantom comes in at a minimum 34, often close to or more than 40. I for one hope we begin to see competitive lists with just a few, kitted out or nearly kitted aces.

So I don't expect you to be able to say anything, but how much more do you know about Wave 5 than the rest of us? Should we be excited?
I guess it's a nice insurance policy if you're a bad flyer. Because you certainly don't want to intentionally land on asteroids as you're still losing your action and possibly getting damage.
You can use asteroids as shields: remember the obstructed attacks part.
Plus imagine the combo with EM Emitter...

I'd wager it only refers to the +1 agility obstructed. The Tantive outright prevents attacks and I think they just chose the word badly.

You should definitely be excited about what is coming. I expect the major announcement(s) will be made at gencon.
I could see Dash flying around on a HWK amongst the asteroids.
Or alongside a whole squadron of HWK's amongst the clouds?
I'd give up Gunner on Han for this. Or at the very least, I'd try it a few times to see how it goes.
Almost entirely off topic, though this made me think...is Gunner a waste of 5 points on an Outrider title YT-2400? The Outrider title says you cannot perform primary weapon attacks, which is what gunner triggers...
Hm. I can definitely see Dash crew being useful on a non-Dash Outrider YT-2400, especially if stuff like Gunner/Luke don't work, and you can't rely on an evade from C-3P0. Hide behind rocks and use the HLC to tag opponents who won't get extra die from range or obstruction.
Yes, Gunner cannot be used with the Outrider title. But, considering they are the same price, I'd guess a 2400+HLC+Gunner will be used more often than 2400+Outrider+HLC. The title costs too much to give such a horrendous weakness. Any really mobile ships will tear it apart.
Im not so sure. Gunner is actually pretty good on 2 attack ships, because you are more likely to miss. He gives you the chance to strip and miss then shoot again. I dont think he is as useful on when using HLC as you are much less likely to miss.

Having seen other "Players get to make a card" go for game-breakingly overpowered (the normal route for player-generated content, and not always successfully restrained by the developers) I have to say I like the restraint. It seems useful without being a must-take or insanely dominant. It's a well-designed ability whether it ends up seeing a lot of play or not.

The point of Gunner in that situation being that you may not always get to make that forward HLC attack, but you have it as an insurance policy for that 2 die attack that isn't as likely to hit. And hey, people may just decide to save those 5 points altogether. I just think that having the forward HLC most of the time, and two attempts at a 2 attack shot when you can't is better than having the Range 1 weakness that many lists can easily exploit. Hypermobile ships, cheap 3 attack ships, and swarms will demolish the Outrider with title and it wouldn't be able to return fire in often dire situations.
Help design. FFG wouldn't have allowed anything silly, not that Paul Heaver or Doug Kinney went with silly. It sounds like FFG actually powered up Dash Rendar.

Unless it has a great dial, which it might.

I think this might (putting it mildly) be a bit too squishy, but fun just for the look on your opponent's face:
Again, not anything remotely competitive, fun though, might even be surprisingly hardy if the Hawklings take cover under the wings of Mother Goose.

Ahhh, good old Boss Nass back in the early 80's. Brian Blessed is a guy I would love to chat with at a con.
