Dash Rendar Preview
Now if only we could use him as a crew on his own ship! We need a Cloning Factory!
I guess it's a nice insurance policy if you're a bad flyer. Because you certainly don't want to intentionally land on asteroids as you're still losing your action and possibly getting damage.
Nice

This can have a great effect on how you set up your ships and fly Them
Making it harder for your opponent to come at you.
He still has to go around them. You don't
Quite possibly setting you up for better shots
Edited by Krynn007The "your attacks can't be obstructed" bit is what makes it a tool for smart players. YT-2400 + Dash Rendar + HLC + Outrider is going to be one of the better snipers in the game, since it can skulk around behind obstacles without granting you a bonus to your defense due to either range or obstruction.
Half the card is good for 'bad' flying.
The other half is very very good for taking cover. You'll get the bonus green dice for being behind an asteroid, but they wont get one from your attacks.
So, you could barrel roll yourself behind an asteroid, use it as cover, shoot. Then next turn (if you have AS) barrel roll out from behind the asteroid and move without hitting it.
Plus we're conditioned by now to assume no one would ever fly through or into an asteroid on purpose. If you've got shields and hull to spare, the chance for one damage might be outweighed by the element of surprise.
Sky should be falling soon...

Exactly. Although it is more of a surprise on ships that don't have this ability. I'd be surprised to see you fly over an asteroid on a regular ship, but with Dash I'd half expect you do do it on purpose.
I think the real surprise is going to be using this card and purposely avoiding asteroids - because your opponent will expect you to land on a rock, or behind it.
Good job, Hothie! This will be a really cool and fun addition to the game.
Good upgrade, but I don't think we'll see it hit the table very often. Which is a good thing, I hate auto-include upgrades.
From a design perspective, I really love the way they used to make sure that you could not combine both effect (ignoring obstacles during activation phase and combat phase) on the same ship. Brilliant.

You beat me to it! That was my thought when I started reading the post from FFG.
Also, Star Destroyers.
This card can severely weaken the style of blocking with the goal of herding YT-1300s onto asteroids, too.
It's not a full counter to it because action denial and damage rolling still occur, but Han getting stuck on an asteroid for multiple turns is no longer a sitting duck.
Turrets care about having this card.
Still a fair tradeoff as even the YT1300 only has two crew slots. Using this card means giving up C3P0, Chewbacca, Gunner/Luke, etc.
We recorded a podcast on this card with Doug. It should be up tonight!

The YT-1300's crew slots are pretty much spoken for.
And the YT-2400 only gets one... I don't really see Dash being the lucky winner for that slot.
It could be pretty amusing to run an Ion Outrider with this crew card. Try to keep rocks between yourself and the target, plink away with the ion turret...
Perhaps there will be some other interactions with the pilots we have yet to see.
Also, the new terrain may considerably strengthen the "your shots cannot be obstructed" bit.

Cool, can't wait to listen.
The end of the article has an interesting bit about the " new debris cloud obstacle tokens " that they'll discuss in their next preview article.
These Wave 5 preview articles sure seem to be coming quickly now even though it's slated for a late September release. I wonder if Rebel Aces won't be the only thing sold early at GenCon...
I'd give up Gunner on Han for this. Or at the very least, I'd try it a few times to see how it goes.
It's also less consistent than Threepio against a small number of attacks, but if you sneak behind an obstacle that's an extra die against every attack your opponent makes for the turn.

Which podcast is yours? I'll definitely give a listen.
I'm scared. Rebels have got some very nice cards in Wave 5, that means the imperial side have got to have some stuff that's just as good.

Almost entirely off topic, though this made me think...is Gunner a waste of 5 points on an Outrider title YT-2400? The Outrider title says you cannot perform primary weapon attacks, which is what gunner triggers...
Hm. I can definitely see Dash crew being useful on a non-Dash Outrider YT-2400, especially if stuff like Gunner/Luke don't work, and you can't rely on an evade from C-3P0. Hide behind rocks and use the HLC to tag opponents who won't get extra die from range or obstruction.

Well we already have seen Mara Jade, which looks really good. Still waiting to see Director Isard.
