I believe that a good name can enhance the "soul" of a list, if you will. It won't necessarily be more effective because of it, but it enhances my please in writing/playing it, at least. What follows it a selection of some of my lists with "goofy" names; the first name is what I personally call the list, and the second is what some of the players at my meta call it, if applicable.

"Those **** E-wings" AKA "Critfest"

This one is tricky to play, as it's pretty squishy, and doesn't do well against ships with shields, for obvious reasons. Still, it's entertaining to see how many crits go through.

This one's fun too, and has a nasty alpha. Two Homing Missiles at PS8, and one at PS6, and all of them with TL+Focus hurts everything. The squadron is a bit squishy as well, but hopefully you're able to kill a few ships first round of shooting so the attrition fight is easier.

Not a heavy hitter, but they're all at PS12 for some nice consistent chip damage. Consider Predator instead of Push the Limit if you want to sacrifice a bit of tank for higher quality attacks.
