Pretty sure he means X-Wing battles, not "battling" your significant other. (Although "table" makes a good option for both.)
I just got a couple vinyl mats and they look awesome. I don't think they're too slippery, either, as they tend to have a little bit of stickiness that can help keep things in place.
I play plenty of Wings of Glory and Sails of Glory so I have four neoprene mats of the former and two of the latter. So I actually just flip them over to the back side, which is pitch black, unfinished neoprene and that is infinitely more preferable than a printed "outer space" mat for me at least. Prospective is much clearer, there is no base slippage whatsoever, and if there is slippage then it is the whole mat altogether.

DagobahDave's yoga mat is pretty good, when it comes to being the right size and not letting your minis slip. However, I do want something that looks spacy, and I find that my black spray-painted felt is really nice.
That is, until my cat decides to join in the fun. Never pull the cat off the table when felt is on the line!
I've only ever played on felt, which I don't mind, but I'd like something a bit more... substantial?

Edited by ramyI just got the HCD Supplies Star Field mat, and I'm going to try it tonight. It's basically a huge mouse pad. I got the one that has just some small stars scattered about, so it's not as busy looking as most of the mats we see.
I'll post here how I like it after I use it.

I'm sure I've said before that the only thing better than a yoga mat would be a yoga mat with nebulae and stars printed on it.
