This might be a really nit-picky thing to ask, but is there any example in canon where a stormtrooper of the rank-and-file is using anything other than an E-11? I thought aforementioned weapon was a blaster carbine, not a rifle, yet all the troopers statted in the cores and adventures use blaster rifles.

The main reason I ask is because I like to get specific with my EotE players about what kind of guns theyve acquired because it usually helps give them a more visual representation of themselves. Additionally, my players are, to a man, incredible gun-monkeys; they mod out EVERYTHING if they get the parts. I know the troopers mostly have BRs for balance, but what would they use besides an E-11? The Imperial standard armory seems to skip over the BR category and go straight to HBRs or LRBs for non-coms and heavy troopers from all the Wookiepedia research Ive managed to do.

Its a holdover from the weg days. The people who made that load of poodoo long ago didnt know any better, and it stuck. Another reason to hate weg.

I say the e-11 is a carbine in my game. Just drop the range. The sand troopers used at least two other weapons. Repeaters and rifles.

Call it a carbine, if you like. It has a folding stock. When the stock is folded, it has an "accurate" range of Medium, and can be used one-handed. With the stock out, you use it with both hands and has a more "accurate" range of Long.

If it is actually causing you that much heartache just make it a carbine with a wave of your hand and overt demonstration of your unquestioned power as GM. It's your game, your table. I casually and unapologetically flush portions of the game I don't like and don't pay it a second thought.

Basically samophlange hit it. The early WEG mats made a mistake, listing carbines as older long barreled blasters. The rules still worked OK for short barreled rifles, so by the time they sorted it out, it wasnt worth the trouble. Later materials just kept it rolling.

If it really bothers you the world won't end if you downgrade the weapons to carbines. The rifle thing just keeps them more flexible from a mechanical perspective. Or you can just say the e-11 has a.....ummm...high end particle burst accelerator that extends the range out to long but can't accept the sniper barrel mod (which is why the e-11 sniper rifle is its own statted weapon.)

WEG screwed up completely. For some reason no other Star Wars RPG has thought to fix the error. So, I keep house ruling it's a Blaster Carbine every time a new system comes out.

1. It's short to the point it even fits in a holster like a pistol.

2. It can be fired one-handed.

3. The prop is a Sterling sub-machinegun, a step BELOW a carbine in size.

4. There is actually more of an argument to make it a heavy blaster pistol then a rifle.

Whitestone it's not nit-picking. Make the E-11 a Blaster Carbine in your campaign since it will end up being a common weapon when your players end up facing off against the Empire. Fix it from the start:

My version is obsolete with my folding stock attachment being trumped by a later official release of such. But you get the point. It can still be a formidable adversary weapon without calling it a rifle.

Star Wars isn't very accurate or consistent with ship classes, so why should we expect better with personal weapons?

I always thought they were pistols, until WEG came out even then I always pictured them as pistols and rifles as something different

For canonicity, yes.

But this game, along with all of the FFG Star Wars lines it seems, are firmly rooted in Legends. If they were to base the games purely on canon, there'd be very little content.

This. You've got light cruisers that are everything from 42 to 500+ meter in length, and frigates being everything from 35 to 850 meters in length. I suspect that whoever classified the E-11 as a rifle either hadn't heard of Carbines, thought rifle sounded cooler, or was worried that fans might have no idea what a carbine was.
