Hey there folks
Im new to the forums and also pretty new to the game ( fellow rebel here
) I do enjoy the game alot. The game is fun and easy to learn but pretty intense in higher levels ( not that Im a high level player myself but I have seen some games )
Anyways, my question is ( Im not entirely sure if this is the right place as well to place this but the other 3 sections seem to not fit this topic ) is that since I do have a pretty large collection of rebels, is it also wise to invest in a pretty big lot of empire to learn their playstyle ? ( I'm not hating on rebels or anything haha ) Or should I just stick with rebels and learn both from playing just one side?
Thank you in advance guys

Is it wise to play both Rebels and Empire D: ?
Aside from preference, there is really no reason not to play both sides. The vast majority of the cards that come with each side's fighters can be used by both sides, and a bigger collection gives you more options to toy with, both in cards and models.
I myself am an Imperial player purely because I love the design of Imperial models and the fluff idea of fighting for the Imperial side. But if you are already thinking of starting an Imperial collection next to your Rebel collection, you should. Worst that can happen is that you find you don't like the Imperial playstyle and have a few models to trade.
There are upgrade cards in the Imperial expansion packs that are useful for Rebels, so it's a good idea to explore those options.
I started out thinking that I'd be a Rebel player primarily, but I find that I enjoy playing both sides for different reasons. Imperials have a lot of mobility on the table compared to Rebels. Try out a TIE Fighter or Interceptor and see how neat it is to get rid of stress while still zipping around.
Learning how both factions fly will make you a better player, since this game involves so much guessing about what your opponent is going to do. When you know the maneuver options on the enemy's dials, it will help you anticipate what they might do, because you'll know what you would do in their situation.
So yeah, I strongly recommend trying out both factions. ![]()
What DagobahDave said: yes, it's a good idea.
I have been collecting both because I have to supply ships both for myself and my opponents (who are highschoolers who can't really spend money on anything; it's all going to help with college expenses).
It also makes a lot of sense to run both occasionally, all that "know your enemy" stuff and whatnot. The best way to learn how to beat something is to try it out and see what you have problems with.
Thank you very much guys
I will and I shall go with the empire as well ![]()
Can grow men having even more toys to play ever be considered a bad idea?
I think not!
Depends on how much money you have. Sure is a lot of fun, though.
+1 to everything DagobahDave said.
To again quote from the ancient Jedi master, Sun Tzu...
"If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle."
Play both sides but don't feel the need to be a "completist" on both sides.
The biggest reason is simply that the "enemy" miniatures often include the upgrades that you want/need for your ships. If you wanted to put a Stealth Device on an A-Wing or E-Wing you're going to need to get a Firespray. Now if you play with a VERY liberal proxy policy you may get by without the actual cards but Official tournaments require the actual cards and with a very weak secondary market for upgrade cards the best way to get them is to buy the ships that have them.
The other big reason is simply to "Know thy ENEMY." If you play Rebels you may learn a lot by playing the Empire which you can then use to destroy them when you next face them. Of course you may also find that "the other side" has some play styles that you find yourself enjoying but which are harder to do with your side if they can be done at all.
I might say a third reason is so you have minis for both sides so if you get the opportunity to introduce the game to other people you can at least have clear sides when playing. I'd say it's easier to fight over Rebels vs. Imperials than it would be to fight over the same ship when you play only using one side.
Now where I said you don't need to be a "completist" I'm simply saying that you probably don't need to go out at buy all the figures you would need to fill out every possible squadron combination for the other side. Get one of everything and you should be able to do a lot with just that.
It's not wise to upset a Wookiee.
Playing both Rebels and Imperials? Go for it!
The only setback is you've got to pay for 'em. That's it.
The only setback is you've got to pay for 'em. That's it.
And hide them from your wife.
"Hey honey, what's in those Amazon boxes that came?" *gulp
My wife is hot, but I still envy anyone who's wife plays x-wing with them. ![]()
It's expensive but I highly recommend it!
Yes, of course it is wise.
"So it is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you can win a hundred battles without a single loss.
If you only know yourself, but not your opponent, you may win or may lose.
If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself"
Sun Tzu aside, there's all those sweet upgrade cards...
Buy all the ships!
Know thy enemy!
Play rebel {scum} to learn thier strengths and weaknesses so you can more efficiently crush them.
Flying them for any other reason is treason! Do you want the terrorists to win?
YES. It is a FANTASTIC idea. You'll be playing THE ENTIRE GAME. WHY SETTLE FOR HALF?
Collecting and playing both sides is still only a fraction of the cost of collecting a single faction in some other games. I like all the models and the different playstyles. I never considered only playing one side.
I buy everything and play both sides. They have different play styles and it's fun to try both.
Maybe playing with the Empire doesn't appeal to you for whatever reason (don't have the money or thematic reasons). That's okay.
I have everything and I play rebels once in awhile, but I lean way more towards Imps. I would echo what some of the above posts stated. If you play both sides you learn the strengths and weaknesses of them and can fly better.
Edited by TheGreedyMerchantI splurged D; quite a bit as well =/ Ended up getting Majority of the ships except for the Phantoms and Defenders ( I would have as well ... but my FLGS is out of stock /cries ) [12 Tie Fighters, 4 Tie Interceptors, 2 Tie Bombers, 1 Tie Advanced, 1 Lambda shuttle , 2 Firesprays] I kinda did go overboard with the Fighters .... which I might trade away ( friends kinda insisted I take em off their hands .. little did I know swarms usually only go for 6-8 { Time to go for 100+ pts games then ! }
Thank you again everyone
for helping me decide
. At first I was more into the cards ... however to know the movement dials and the tricks seems more beneficial in a way ( haha well atleast for me ^^, just so I can try guess what my opponent tries )
Now I must search the forum for the tricks and tips on the nasty Imperial Navy
who knows ... I might enjoy them and join their side
( I kidds
well ... to an extent haha )
Out of curiosity ( I believe this is going off topic now but I do hope theress some kind individuals there who dont mind
*fingers crossed*) Should I just field whatever it is that I do want at first? or go with the basics and field several Tie figthers along with bombers and whatnot. Or try the Swarm lists ( which would help my formation for the most part [ though I did hear that even though they are quite consistant , the list is dying? I could be mistaken])
I guess what Im trying to ask is what would be the best approach for me in learning the Empire
?
thank you again in advance fine sirs / or madams
.. ( rebel or empire )
