Vader Crew Card

By shaner, in X-Wing

Hey folks,

Watched some vids on the Doom Shuttle with a Darth Vader upgrade. So after you attack, you can suffer 2 dmg to cause a crit to your opponent. My question is...is this crit IN ADDITION to the dmg you roll or is it just changing a die result to a crit?

For intance...shuttle rolls 3 hits on a target of which he evades none. I cause 3 dmg. Can I then suffer 2 dmg to cause a fourth hit...that is a crit?

Thanks

No. It is entirely an extra damage. It is not part of an attack, nor is it a separate attack (and thus can't me affected by Draw Their Fire or the like). You just force your opponent to take the damage.

No Ninja! Success!

It's in addition so it's good for finishing off a fighter on one hit, and it can also go through shields as its not doing damage but dealing a crit.

To further elaborate using your example: The shuttle would attack and roll its hits. The defender would then roll evade dice. Resolve all hits and evades, and then remove shield tokens/assign damage cards as normal. This full process is called "performing an attack" and encompasses everything from the moment you declare your intent to attack and select a target to assigning the cards.

Now, once all that is done, you use Vader to force the target you just attacked to be dealt a critical hit.

The fun part is that if you miss, you can still do it. If you get a second attack from gunner, you can use vader again too. And if taking that 2 damage would destroy you, you can still use vader. I'm also fairly certain that even if using vader for the first attack would destroy you, you can still get your gunner and thus your second vader.

No that is wrong. You're "suffering" which means shields work. "Assign a faceup damage card" is what you're thinking.

Gross...

...and I love ninjas!

Isn't more like the proton bomb though, that ignores shields and goes straight to the hull.

No, that is "assigning a face up damage card". Vader's text plainly says "suffer". Suffering damage is dealt with normally.

That one guy is right, vader does not bypass shields. You would want to use him on shield less opponents mainly.

Okay cool i stand corrected then thanks :)

Only recently got the shuttle and haven't used vader, when i do i'll know to play him correctly.

Vader works particulaly well on an otherwise unupgraded shuttle. Shuttles are cheap for the amount of damage they can take, and they really suck later in the game. But since it kills your ship, resist the temptation to put on other upgradeds. (even though you get great synergy with a gunner)
