4th preview up...and wow...look at the spies stats....they are all moved around...
4th preview
Yeah... I'm not sure I'm digging the spy. Or the sailor for that matter. I mean it's convienent to move from Kingsport to Innsmouth to Arkham easily, but extra Look cards? I'm not too sure about that!
That's probably because his more closer to the sea than he wants to...just stay away from innsmouth I guess. I like the fact that he has the +2 to skill checks in aquatic locations though...not to broken but good in the same time...and sure saves the little guys from having ugly run-ins with moon beast.
If you strain a bit, Zoe looks like Dana Scully doing an autopsy on some unfortunate subject in the X-Files.
i am sorry but the new characters are kind of.....lame? hohum? can you see yourself ever wanting to play them?
umm, kevin just spoiled on bgg that there is a gravedigger character!! i am there
I probably wouldn't play the chef...but yeah...still play them...flavour text will add to the characters and also stories.

Uuuuuuh... Did you *look* at the chef? Yeah she only have four will, but she also starts with a cross (an excellent starting item). So essentially you'd leave her Fight/Will at 2/3 the whole game and adjust it up or down one depending on what she's needed for. True, she starts off nearly broke, but she also starts with *4* clue tokens (that's *alot*!) and two unique items (could be good, could be useless). What makes her really amazing though is her ability. Dear god... She punches through IMMUNITIES! And she turns resistances to dust. Also, against immunities, if you have Richard Upton Pickman, or Professor Amitage for her, she'll punch COMPLETELY through them. That's crazy. But... That's what she does. She's a specialized fighter.
On to Silas. He's got some pretty nice fighting stats. Also, you move him onto an aquatic location and he's got +2 to all skill checks (amazing). His ability to port items across the boards easily is also a very nice boost in speed. His starting equipment is pretty nice too. Granted, the Tainted Blood does worry me a bit ;'D Still, we're talking about a character that if he fights in an aquatic location can have 6/5 or 7/4 *base* stats (that's assuming you want to pass the horror check— on the other hand you could just crank him up to the gigantic 8/3). That's pretty sweet.
As for Trish? Mumble mumble... Lets wait until we see what her personal stories effects might be ;'D currently I'm not hating her, but I don't like her much either. Realistically, she's like having two separate investigators that you can rapidly change between... And her luck is lousy even at its best. Still, she's not *that* bad, provided you're willing to have either low fight, low will, or low speed for a turn :' low luck is a given. Breaking the Limits is kindof interesting. If she started with a little more money I wouldn't resent her as much. I really wish she had one less clue token and two more dollars.

Zoey is a very good tier two character. Sure, she's ugly and crazy, but the other players will give her money and weapons so she can make them monster stew ;'D
Yeah of the three, the chef is probably my favorite...
I'm curious about the other 13 investigators.
Haha. 13 seems like a ridiculous amount of investigators.

16 too ;')
So far I am feeling positive about the investigators (not sure about the spy - may encounter some problems, faq, etc), but I can't wait for the other 13
Well I don't see how the chef is a chef going by her abilities and back story but i till think she's a cool character. Specilized characters are never bad. Also about time we had a 7 stamina female.
While I'n not too fond of the sailors abilities and how they need Insamouth elements to really work (kinda like the Athlete) I do like the fact that his sweet stats make up for it. He's the first 6 fight character with decent will, focus, and sanity.
I find the spy rather interesing. Kinda like the Handyman but with better stats and slightly worse starting items. This also quells one of my worries. How do they make another decent 6 sneak character. The oringinal, Ashcan, had very nice fight/will but his 6 sneak was more of a handicap with his 3 speed max and only 1 focus. The second 6 sneak char, Wendy became the first character to have a conflicting stat max greater than 10 as well a a massive focus and play style that needed the 6 sneak making 1 good 6 neak char. Now we have the spy who can fully use the high sneak if the situation calls for it but isn't hindered by it otherwise. I believe it was needing a good way to let her efficiently use the 6 sneak without being to similar to Wendy probably promoted such a weird char more than anything else.
If I get this expansion, I'll have 2 characters named Zoey (one of my 4 homemade characters). So I probably won't
this thread too eki ?!....okay worst reason ever ...just admit your greedy~! :3
As for the characters... I know chef must be awesome stat-wise ....but I play my characters for the story, and the reason I paly arkham too...sure some of my friends say I "power play" a bit...but...I think I'm getting the best of both worlds.

I'd hazard a guess that his personal story card will have something to do with "treating" The Look, or at least stop you from picking up tonnes of extra look cards.
So far my reaction is zOMG. And not in a good way!
What the hell is the deal with Trish Scarborough? That's totally demented. If this was a character that someone on these boards created, i would probably scream and explode and say that it was lunacy and would never work. In fact I see no reason not to just past in my standard response here:
"OK Kroen this is a ridiculous, how the hell is this skill-slider ability meant to work, you're messing about with stuff that's too fundamental to the game. This is even worse than that Blek Loaden character with the five arms."
I like the sailor. I think hes pretty cool. I like his abilities, his items are nice. I really like the ability to sail between places. Not only is this free, but it allows for more flexibility between travelling the boards. He doesn't have to leave or arrive from the train depot. While I can't think of any specific situation right now, I imagine that can be life-saving.
The Chef is a solid combat character. He ability to ignore resistances and decrease immunities is insane! Suddenly large monsters and GOOs are considerably less scary.
I don't know how I feel about the Spy. Personally, I don't think I'll play her more than once but I am glad that he stats are all weird and different. It means that they are looking at innovative things to do with the investigators, which is a good sign
I'm not too fond of the spy.
The Chef and the Sailor are both awesome though. The Sailor=best rift-closer ever?

Maybe. He can get to Kingsport if he's near the Unvisited Isle or the River docks, but then again he could get there if he was simply near the Train Station.
It's also interesting that you need expansion boards to really make full use of his ability and disability. He's the only character I've seen that is essentially expansion-board dependent.
With the Sailor I think we'll see more White Ship Captains.

You saying Jim Culver couldn't become White Ship Captain
?
I must say, Zoey is currently my favorite investigator in the game. Her ability is pure badass. Before Zoey, Mark had the most badass ability and thus he was my favorite investigator. But Zoey's ability is much more badass and she also has a really sweet set of stats. Mummy? a joke. Colour? easy as pie. This ability is really really broken.
