Rebel Opportunist list

By Neosaki, in X-Wing

Wes Janson (37)

X-wing (29) R2-D2 (4) Shield Upgrade (4)

Hobbie Klivian (30)

X-wing (25) R2-D6 (1) Opportunist (4)

Jek Porkins (33)

X-wing (26) R5-D8 (3) Opportunist (4)

^What do you guys think? Hobbie and Jek can both use opportunist without taking stress. Hobbie just has to acquire or spend a target lock, and Jek can shrug off the stress naturally with his ability. My only thought is that maybe I could outfit Wes Janson better. I am not taking advantage of his elite skill slot as it stands.

Well, you could drop the shield up. on Wes and give him Veteran Instincts. Use the 3 points for hull upgrade on either Wes or Jek...

Jek could use a hull upgrade...Wes is aleady PS 8 though. I might try it.

I'm iffy on Hobbie. For just a little more you could take Wedge with an R2 unit and have a better effect, plus the option to focus instead. Wes would need VI, but it's totally worth it. Porkins is a gamble too, especially with only 3 ships.

If you really like Hobbie though, stick him with R3A2 sometime. Not in this list, as it doesn't fit your idea, but basically he gets to TL, shoot, Give stress and take one, then use his TL to clear his. Great way to annoy Phantoms

Alright these next two suggestions require Rebel Aces but what about:

Wes w/ VI + R2-D2

Green w/ VI + Opportunist + Refit + Title x3

Three greens focusing down a naked ship at PS5, rolling up to 4 dice R1 is pretty potent.

OR

Wes w/ VI + R2-D2

Jek w/ R5-D8 + Opportunist

Keyan w/ Opportunist

Keyan is a beast rolling 5 dice R1 with Opportunist and Focusing those dice with his stress. You also have Jek at the same PS opening up your options one who to shoot and move first.

If you want something playable now I think it's hard to beat the Wes, Wedge, Luke combo just due to the higher PS overall but your list doesn't look bad.

I find that there's a couple approaches to running Opportunist. The first is using blockers to do action denial. Something like this.

x2 ORS + Intel Agent

Ibtisam + Opportunist + Sensor Jammer + HLC

ORS are great blockers, plus you have Sensor Jammer to force someone into spending the focus. I find Ibtisam's ability works great with Opportunist.

Then there's the elite squad, where you have a couple of power hitters stripping tokens off of your opponents squad and your ship mops up.

Wes + VI + R3-A2

Wedge

Ibtisam + Opportunist + HLC

Things tend to drop quickly to this squad, but if you lose a ship, things can start to go down quickly. So it's a bit risky.

Here's a 4 ship squad that's rather fun too.

Biggs

Red Squadron Pilot

Dagger

Tarn + R2-D6 + Opportunist

3 ships focus on a target then Tarn closes. Now you have 4 ships and none of them are vulnerable to Predator. This squad has done well, in the past, but I'm not sure how it would do against phantoms.

Keyan with Opportunist, HLC

Wes with whatever you want

Whoever else you want in here (I was thinking Roark and give Wes Swarm Tactics, or Jan Ors and Wes with Wingman to make Keyan hit harder). Fill up points.

Keyan hits like a beast constantly, and can use his actions to TL for even better shots. Plus there's some room for play here, the stuff I wrote above is barebones for a reason.

Wait why do you want Wingman in that list? Keyan needs to have a stress on him still to be able to use it offensively.

Thanks for all the tips guys.

This is what I ended up flying

Wes Janson (31)

X-wing (29) Adrenaline Rush (1) R5 Astromech (1)

Hobbie Klivian (30)

X-wing (25) Opportunist (4) R2-D6 (1)

Ibitsam (39)

B-wing (28) Opportunist (4) Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

I lost, but not by much. I might try flying this list again, but with Wedge instead of Hobbie. I might need to keep Hobbie to those stress inducing lists.with R3A2.

Hobbie is probably better with R3A2, but I get the feeling you don't understand the benefit of Wes w/ V.I. Bumping him up to PS10 won't matter in every single match, but in a take-all-comers environment, it allows him to threaten any ship by shooting 1st and forcing the opponent to spend or lose a token (whisper, han, fel all hate that). Adrenaline Rush by comparison is kinda lackluster on Wes....

Wingman is for Jan Ors...note that I mentioned in the same phrase that I included her as a pilot.

I love Opportunist lists. Here is what I like to run:

  • Wes Janson (29) + Veteran Instincts (1)
  • Wedge Antilles (29) + Opportunist (4) + R2 astromech (1)
  • Etahn A'baht (32) + Opportunist (4)

100 points even, with about the nastiest alpha strike you can get with three ships.

I like the Keyan + HLC + Opportunist builds too, although that's a lot of eggs in one basket.

What about Corran? His 2nd shot will probably be against a tokenless target.
