Best GenCon guess???

By patox, in X-Wing

They've announced Wave 5.

They've announced Armada.

What is left for GenCon? It must be pretty spectacular. I cannot imagine why they wouldn't wait to announce these Star Wars products at GenCon, unless they have something completely mind-blowing.

First, I'm personally pretty excited to find out what they announce, but I suppose whether it will qualify as "completely mind-blowing" depends on the degree of blowing necessary for a particular mind.

Second, the Armada announcement wants people to come to the FFG booth to try out the game. They're building steam for it in a way they just don't need to for X-wing any more.

I do think that Armada is the 'big reveal', and you might be right about the need for X-Wing steam. I'd prefer a steady-as-she-goes approach for X-Wing, but no Imperial huge would be a severe let-down.

I'm unsure now. I'm hoping FFG will have something new and shiny to show us at GenCon, but I wonder if they've already done that with Armada. It could be the big focus for them.

My guess of wave IV on sale, Wave V on demo, no imperial huge ships and no x-wing announcement is looking good.

How much would you wager on your bet? I find no announcement of an Imperial huge as somewhat unfathomable.

Also... Wave IV on sale? What kind of prediction is that?? That falls into the 'presenter is chewing gum' category. Who the flip cares if Wave IV is available for purchase at GenCon?

Possibly they give away some copies of Armada to winners of games at the con.. it's been done before....

I doubt it in this instance. For starters, some of the components are still labeled as waiting approval from Lucasfilm, and so e of the others look like not finished model prototypes. If they were going to have actual product to give out I think the preview would show the finished product.

I don't think we have to guess anymore.

What, are you demure a pessimist like GiraffeandZebra , and thinking that we won't get our Imperial huge?

Bro, I've been saying we'll get an Imperial ship since the CR-90 came out. And I'm a huge advocate of the "Rebels" Gozanti. I of course believe we'll get one and you bet I'll buy it.

That said? Expect it to take a back seat to "Armada". Simply because they want to show it off- any company in their right mind would do so ASAP.

Sure, but we've already - today - received that press release. Is something going to be made newly public at GenCon? I really hope that it's the Imperial Huge.

Also, while Armada is clearly big news for us - it's still a different game. One would hope that this game will still have news in store for us.

I'm hopeful that it will, but I won't be surprised if it doesn't. What feels more likely right now, are final details on Wave V, Wave V minis for sale, and demoing Armada.

I'm sure we won't be disappointed by the news out of GenCon.

…actually, that's not true at all. I'm sure some people will in fact be disappointed, because some people around here would complain that the suitcase full of cash they were just handed contains used bills. But I'm sure FFG has some fun surprise they're holding close to the vest.

I certainly hope so.

And yes, the sky will fall for many.

In other news, I just passed my 1,000 post mark.

(****, I need to get a life!)

I hope they still announce huge imperial ships for X-Wing.

I think the Imperial EPIC Ships or The Pirates (Black Sun?) are being saved for sure now...

Armada is a different game, albeit still SW. Also, don't forget that it was how well XWM was received that likely made another SW miniatures game -- Armada -- possible. So to suddenly stop producing one, while it was still going strong, makes no sense. Ideally both games will feed excite on one another. So while Armada will bring people to FFG's booth, I'm sure it won't be the only thing. XWM will get its due.

Back to speculation I'm hoping to see the Gozanti Carrier as well and maybe the Ghost for another Rebel large ship. I don't know if they'll show it now but I'm certain that we'll see it in X-wing within a year.

Does anyone know when FFG is doing their presentation?

Is that how Anakin brings balance to the Force?

I predict the pulsar skate... with synergistic cards that work with Coran Horn....

I am hoping for both Rebel Aces and wave 5 available at GenCon. Previews of wave 6 will be in the glass case at their booth.

I've manually updated the poll in the very 1st post. Gozanti is leading by a wide margin.

Surprisingly, Battle of Yavin Box Set is in 3rd place. I'm really wondering where this is coming from, since there's no precedence. Unless someone has some insider information.

A Battle of Yavin Box Set with Turbolasers? I could see that. Maybe even with a Death Star playmat? That would be truly cinematic.

I think its a case of its just a really good idea, so lots of people want to see it.

It'll be really interesting to compare what the new expansions will be to the discussions we've had. We've certainly had a lot of discussions around the Gozanti on this board. I'm not sure anyone has said 'no way; no how' on it. (Would that have been a -1 vote?)
