Best GenCon guess???

By patox, in X-Wing

Wave 5:

On display and two more wave 5 ships released to reveal the 4 for the wave.

From the Stay on Target article:

Recently, we revealed that the fifth wave of starship expansions for X-Wing consists of two heavily shielded, large-base starships designed to blast through enemy fighters with their powerful turret weapons: the YT-2400 and the VT-49 Decimator.

Wave 5 is two ships. That's it.

Gozanti Cruiser and Vigil Corvette (why would they put something as niche as the Vigil in Age of Rebellion if not to have a mini Star Destroyer?), and the other two mystery SKUs.

Release of Rebel Aces like they did for Wave 3.

I think we all expect to see the wave 5 ships, that is a given. IF there are going to do epic ships for the Empire, and that's a big IF, I suspect we would see them as well.

Call this one from left field, but a new starter set or new edition to the game. It has been around for 2 years now and I could see a revamp of the rules or a new starter sparking up new interest in the game.

Call me crazy...

Yes it is.... but in the spirit of the original prediction, they CAN release other ships and not have them be "Wave X" but still get released. I mean look at Imperial/Rebel Aces, or the new pilots and upgrades that came with the huge ships... those weren't in a wave... but rather were in between waves. Maybe it'll be something like that?

I PREDICT A THIRD FACTION CALLED OUTLAWS !!! where we see smuggles, bounty hunters and any kind of pirate clans fused together yahoooo !!!

Call me crazy...

You're crrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyzeee!

I hope we're providing much in the way of giggles and larfs for the FFG staff right now, especially with this thread.

Card packs with upgrades you can get without needing to purchase a ship.

They will be fixed so no random boosters.

Some will be new upgrades, some will be existing upgrades.

Admiral Ackbar will be included as a new card.

If I were to push my luck I'd say they will have it for sale there printed on their in house machines.

If I were to really push my luck and say it would have alt art.

Two more ships for Wave 5 and a loot at the Huge ships for the Imperials.

I second this.

TIE Hunters!

I'm going with.

Imperial Huge ships:

Vigil-class corvette and Gozanti. I think if the Gozanti comes with TIEs they will be short winged from Rebels.

Rebels cartoon starter or box set:

Comes with the Ghost, Inquisitor's TIE, and 1or 2 short winged TIE fighters. This would be a great way to cross promote Rebels and X-wing. Normally I would not think they would make short winged TIEs, but if they are going to promote Rebels I think they would go all out.

one more for vigil and gozanti.

another thought is perhaps if used in epic, the decimator could cost an epic point?

As much as I want WonderWAAAGH to be wrong, I suspect it will be Imperial huge ships. I think there may be a secondary wave, similar to the rebel aces packs, made specifically for third faction (especially since the new movies may introduce more content/factions for FFG).

Thing is, this ship not being rebel would REALLY confuse non-fluffers.

So you've got to ensure the stuff is easily identifiable. That's why I believe the Gozanti is the option here- because most people never saw it before Rebels, and it'll be known as an Imperial ship by that time- in fact, it **** near already is.

I've bought into this argument for a while.

At the same time, the Nebulon B would probably be about $150. What are the chances of non-fluffers shelling out that much on a ship that big and expensive to begin with? Furthermore, how prominent would the Empire symbols have to be on the box to spark that conversation with the guy at the counter to begin with.

I think the Neb B would be an AWESOME expansion. I think it would be a bit too big and expensive (both in terms of $$ and points) to be particularly viable in most types of play.

But I'd probably get it. :D

A 20 inch'ish $200 Nebbie Spansion?

Vigil and Corellian Gunship

Beyond being too large for this game, the nebulon b is far more identifiable as a rebel ship than the cr-90 is and FFG decided to make it rebel only.

My bet is FFG will have a line so long, they will cause more interference on the GenCon show floor than a swarm of PS1 TIE Fighters

That's how it was last year. I would have liked to hang out in the FFG booth some, get a better look at upcoming stuff, pick up some x-wing, maybe hang out with some people, but the booth was always so crowded, even before the dealer room doors actually opened, that the hour+ wait just to get in the booth was not worth it.

I like your enthusiasm.

Bullschizer. Beyond making assumptions about the intelligence and knowledge of the player base, the Nebulon B is a far more efficient model, model points-wise and actual physical cost wise then the lesser-known Vigil.

But, much like an ISD the Nebulon would be far to large for the game.. the table is 3x6 and it would never be able to turn around... it's not practical, nor would it be cost effective..

That said.. it would be perfect for a capital ship game as one of the larger models.. but I don't see that game coming out any time soon either...

I do like the Nebulon B.. I just dont see it as a viable candidate for the epic game..

It don't a-suppose to turn round!

It is going to a destination and your neat little fighters and such are guarding it on it's way.

There are tons of threads out there about the right scale, everyone's dream ships, the Star Destroyer controversy, etc, etc.

This is about GenCon predictions. There are no wrong answers.

Let's make this safe place for people to post their predictions without getting b!tch slapped. (Can I say that, I guess I just did?)
