Useful Measurements

By GiraffeandZebra, in X-Wing

Okay, so I was just posing in another thread some useful measurements that I try to remember and thought it might be helpful to share. Many of these are common knowledge, some I've never seen elsewhere or aren't often brought up. Add as you see fit.

General Onversions

1. 1 Small ship base = 1 Forward template

2. 1 Large ship base = 2 Forward template

3. Range 1 is 2.5 small ship bases.

4. Range 2 is 2.5 - 5 small ship bases.

5. Range 3 is 5 -7.5 ship bases

General Sizes (useful for missile runs and initial strafing)

6. The length/width of the playing area is 23 small ship bases.

7. The length of the play area from the front edge of your deployment zone to the front edge of their deployment zone is 18 small ship bases.

Movement

8. Not exact, but to estimate a 3 bank for a small ship, picture your ship sliding sideways 2 spots that are the size of the ship base. Then picture it sliding up 4 ship bases. Turned 45 degrees about its center, this is about where you will be.

9. To estimate a 2 bank, picture your ship sliding sideways 1 spot that is the size of the ship base. Then picture it sliding up 3 ship bases. Turned 45 degrees about its center, this is about where you will be.

(8 and 9 are easy to memorize if you remember that the numbers to slide are on either side of the bank you are doing...2 sideways, 4 up for a 3 bank. 2-3-4.)

10. This is a bit hard to describe, but to visualize when a small ship is turning a hard one left, picture a line diagonal from corner to corner of the base. The distance on that line from where your front left corner is to where your back left corner will be is the radius of the maneuver dial.

10a. Alternately you can just picture your firing arc line doubling in length. The end of it will be at your ships back corner. (not as useful for 2 and 3 turns as you'll see)

11. Like 10, but for a 2 hard turn the distance along that line is about a maneuver dial, plus 1/2 of a maneuver dial (1.5 times the diameter)

12. Like 10, but for a hard 3, about 2.5 times the diameter.
