Athena Games X-Wing Live Stream

By Ebak, in X-Wing

Athena Games is streaming a live game of X-Wing for the first time. This is a test run and if you had any feedback or advice please reply to the thread.

There will be an overlay, it is currently in the works, we are thinking of streaming tournaments in the future and are testing out the idea.

To watch the game, head to:

Stream has ended, but you can still watch the video on youtube at:

Watched for a bit, brilliant. Keep it up.

Really? You guys do this while I'm at work?

In all seriousness, looks good, and I would love to watch, but I also want to keep my job lol. I subcribed.

Watched the game.

Nice!

Well done overall. It would be good if you could post the builds on the screen, even if really small.

This is just great ! Good comments, very fast pace.

The only thing that I have in mind that you may improve is the available information on screen

Any chance it will be available on Youtube or elsewhere for non-live viewing? I understand that Twitch will keep it available for a while...but I think you have to tell it to do so.

Thanks all for tuning in. There will be the information on screen for future events, today was a test to make sure everything ewas veiewable. I will upload it to Youtube for you guys to watch. Youtube URL is www.youtube.com/channel/UCAOMH3T_VzssrOGoPSnqcJA will be up later probably in an hour or two if twitch decides to work.

As I said earlier, thanks very much for tuning in.

aaaaaaaand now subscribed to your YouTube channel as well. Keep the X-Wing flowing and I'll stay lol.

(Bonus points for also streaming Infinity and/or Dreadball)

Most enjoyable!

Lol, you know how it is, checking the forums for 5 minutes then getting back to work is COMPLETELY different from watching a game on Twitch from the office

quality ok commentating ok red player flew better and had unlucky dice rollin. the blue player = not ok ill-manered player and cheaty guy. that game was pretty sh*tty in the end the e-wing never had shut down the y-wing with 4 hits while the y-wing evaded it !! at 1:23:11 4 hits vs 1 evade = 3 hits total y wing had 3 shields and 1 hp the result would have been 1 hp left and the y-wing could have fired back with focus ion cannon to get last hp of that e- wing. there were more mistakes iam not sure if the blue player was cheating on purpose neven if that game was for fun or not.

more mistakes where seen here at 01:03:44 after revealing the 1 forward from the ionisation he never could have boosted with the e-wing while it was still stressed !! Stress = no actions but he did boost and even took his stress away and made a barrel rolled with Advanced Sensors while stressed and boosted again !! while it sais on the upgrade card that after u do adcanced sensors skip the action phase. with all these things that game went on 20 minutes longer and made it for the red player harder to finish it. just sayin the e-wing would have been ionized out of the map at 01:03:44 cause of stressed 1 forwards and more focused ion fire at his rear.

i kinda nerd raged here but still get the facts right

sorry for grammar issues iam german and speak 3 other languages aswell and its not easy for me to have proper grammer in rage mode in another language ;P

That's fine, and we did call it out on the commentary about rule mistakes. It was only a test game played at a fly casual like event. Leighton is competitive but also very respectful of things. I am not sure about the Y-Wing dying, but I feel that Joe (the other player) would have mentioned if the math was incorrect.

All in all, both enjoyed the game, and I am kinda glad the game went on longer, it meant we got to the awesome 1 v 1 showdown.

When we actually stream the tournament, we will be going to rules and if we see any attempt to take advantage of the rules to cheat we will call down a TO to the table.

For those who missed it, you can find the match on the Athena Games Youtube channel, here's a link to the video:

We are trying our best to do what we can. So far we stream Magic (of course) and the Pokémon pre-release. X-Wing is something I've been pushing personally at the store for awhile now and if it has the following then we will continue to do it. Right now there is talk of only doing it at Tournaments. However if there is enough demand...we may do it every Wednesday. That is if the demand is there of course.

I (Elliot) am a player of X-Wing and the problem with streaming is that people say "We want to stream the game!" and George (my co-commentator and the person who runs the stream) always says the same thing "That would be great...so who doesn't want to play so I can have a co-commentator" and that's when people back out. Me? I was all too happy to volunteer to commentate. I've even arranged it so that there is a third commentator, Chris, who will switch out with me if I have the urge to play a game.

So if you want to see more X-Wing, keep watching, commenting and posting at the Athena Games Youtube and Twitch page!

Wow. The E-Wing player was drunk or really confused about how things work.

Aside from the already mentioned boosting while stressed, you can't use advanced sensors to take an action, execute your maneuver, then PtL to take another action. You definitely can't take an action, move, measure arc, and then take another action! I think my mind almost exploded when that happened. Both actions at once with PtL bubba. This guy would be unreal with a Phantom played by these crazy rules though.

Holy cow the pre-measuring and "oh snap, I forgot to boost to put you in arc, like I know you already measured range and are actually already rolling but now that I know I'm in ion turret range I'd kind of like to boost so I can attack you too." And checking arcs with the ruler before taking actions constantly.

Fly casual and all, but the red player was getting some serious boneage on the rules mistakes, pre-measuring, and out of sequence actions. Try to keep the number of rules mistakes and violations somewhat in check, even in casual games it is no fun when one guy gets advantage after advantage out of rules errors.

Oh. Nice vid. Look forward to more. Seriously. Liked the setup and commentary.

Thanks. It is something we will have an eye on and Leighton himself has actually commented on his own mistakes not realising how much he dun goofed. I'm fairly certain Joe (his opponent) was being a good sport and Leighton probably asked to do said things retroactively, we all make mistakes in game. Naturally when this is a tournament setting, tournament level rules will be adhered to.

One of the commentators mentioned the guy is the store champion?

Fly casual, yes... mistakes are one thing. But a player with a bunch of tournament experience like that obviously knows better. Those weren't mistakes. They were deliberate.

It all worked out okay in the end.

The cheater was fed screaming to the dice gods.

He won the store championship and lost at Imdaar Alpha (he earned last place no less). He only flew an E-wing once before this match and probably had never ran a ship with advanced sensors and push the limit. Leighton probably realised mistakes and asked Joe if he could make a retroactive change. Was he deliberately cheating? I don't think so. Did he make mistakes? Certainly.

Once we are playing by tournament rules, there will definitely be questions asked if we see such shenanigans. The advantage to streaming is that people are watching you cheat and its easy for someone to call you out on it. So you'd never try and cheat in a tournament if you are being watched by the world.

first of all i like what u guys do there ok but plz get the rules right. here are some newcomers thatm ight watch ure stream aswell and then get learn something completely wrong from watching it cause they think what u guyz do is right ;P. i will see forward to watch more from u guyz but with eagle eyez >;P

Despite the rules issue, Subscribed to the YouTube channel!

I've talked with the store owner about doing it regularly. At least once a month I was told is definitely an option. Every week is probably too much for our stream team, every other week is an option as well.

End of the day, it depends on the head of the stream and the store owner. I'm just the co-commentator. :P
