Scooter? Yeah... a scooter.

Ok, this is just odd but I feel like you fine folks can help me fine-tune it. One of my PCs has decided he wants a scooter. Like a razer scooter type thing, because I think he sees himself as a space hipster.

I want to make it fun if that's what he wants, and make it more interesting than whatever he is thinking. So, if anyone can help me refine the following, that would be great:

While looking around an oddball curiosities shop, he sees what looks like a razer scooter with repulsorlifts instead of wheels (I can describe it better in the moment, just roll with me here) hanging on the wall. He goes over to check it out and accidentally knocks it off the wall and BAM! a huge blaster bolt fires into the ceiling leaving a scorch mark, and getting him screamed at by the proprietor. When it is clear no damage has been done, the proprietor explains that this is an old prototype of a failed weapons system slash personal transportation device. In practice, the firing mechanism was too twitchy and would sometimes go off accidentally during regular use. It also was extremely difficult to 'wield', as the user would have to do a bit of acrobatics to get the scooter pointed at their target.

Basically, it acts as a tiny scooter with a gun inside the base that is fired by kicking a switch on the back end of the flat part (where you would normally brake on a real razer). This firing mechanism is inherently very difficult to use effectively, so I would either upgrade every check he makes to fire it automatically, or simply increase the difficulty by one. I was thinking it would use gunnery as the skill to fire it. He is a super skilled pilot (about all that he is good at) so I could see him zipping around a battle on his little repulsor scooter shooting at people. Hilarious, and effective. Thoughts? Improvements? How much should this thing cost? I can imagine the proprietor being willing to part with it for cheap as it isn't terribly useful and is more of an annoyance for him to have around, but I don't want to give away something super useful for free either.

The weapons stats for this are waaaaaaaay too good. At Planetary scale you're looking at a weapon that extends to a range normally reserved for missiles and heavy cannons, and at 1 Planetary damage mounted on a Sil 1 vehicle it'll have abase difficulty of 2P vs. people no matter the range and do a minimum 20 points of damage to a person on a hit with a massive boost to the crit table.

Also, I think I need to post a pic of this ridiculous thing:

I'd probably just use the Jetpack stats in the book with a blaster rifle attached and call it done.

You're probably right, what if I downgraded the stats on the weapon to essentially be those of like a heavy blaster rifle? There should be enough space in the base of a scooter for something like that. Say, like the blaster rifle profile on page 160 of the CRB?

Dam: 9, Crit: 3, Range: Medium (personal)

I could still upgrade the difficulty of his checks, and only allow it to be used as a semi-normal gunnery weapon if he were to find a way to improve the firing mechanism (perhaps by having the outlaw tech relocate the trigger from the baseboard to the handlebars)

Page #? Didn't know there was a jetpack profile.

EDIT: Found it! Page 181

Allows him to act as a Sil 1, Speed 2, Handling 0, SS 3 vehicle. I like it.

p. 181 in EoE. It's a piece of gear you can buy. Just slap a rifle on it and voila, you're done.

Just to clarify, what, precisely, does your player mean when he says he wants a "scooter"?

Does he mean a man-powered vehicle, like a real scooter? Because what you're describing is basically just a stand-up swoop. It's simply a hovering "motorcycle" (i.e. it's powered by an engine and the character himself only steers) where he stands up on it rather than sitting down.

When your player asked for a "scooter", is a stand-up swoop what he had in mind?

Sounds like a STAP. Do those have stats?

If he wants to be a real space hipster, it would have to be a hover-longboard.

Hedgehobbit beat me to it.

He originally wanted a man powered one, but when I started hinting that I had a better idea he immediately went "Swoop Scooter?!" and got very excited. I think he'll like the jetpack-with-a-blaster type profile for it.

That's the Star Wars equivalent to a militarized Segway.

How do you park them? Do they need a special mount, or do you just hop off and let it fall over on its side? :)

It's got a kickstand, you can't see it, but it's behind the training wheel mounts on the bottom.

How do you park them? Do they need a special mount, or do you just hop off and let it fall over on its side? :)

I would guess that it folds up and can have a shoulder strap attached :)
