The Obvious Child (Things That Don't Go Together)

By superdave, in X-Wing

So I was messing around with my new TIE Defender the other day, "unboxing" I think they call it, seeing what I could do just with the stuff in the box. "Oh cool!" I thought to myself, "I can pump this thing up to 47 points if I load it up with everything: Predator, Munitions Failsafe, Ion Cannon, and those snazzy Ion... Pulse... Missiles." Wait- two ion weapons? Surely they're different enough to load both. Right?

Ion Cannon
Range 1-3
3 attack

ion effect, 1 ion token
3 cost

Ion Pulse Missiles
Range 2-3
3 attack

ion effect, 2 ion tokens

3 cost

Oh dear. Same cost, same attack. The missiles have a more limited range but flip out one more ion token (important only on a large ship). I can only draw the conclusion that these two things were not meant to be loaded on the same ship.

I started to wonder- are there other expansions that include similarly strange combinations? The E-Wing looks like it might fit the bill- the two R7 droids depend on being inside an opponent's arc while Outmaneuver depends on being outside an opponent's arc- but that's not as glaring an overlap as the Defender's. Thoughts?

Pulse Missiles are also good for preventing energy regen on Huges.

One is a one time use for harsher effects while the other one can be used repeatedly. Different nature of the beast though they look the same.

The Interceptor expansion came with daredevil. PTL is way better on a squint. In fact I've never seen anyone use Daredevil.

R7-T1 can take you from inside someone's arc to outside it, making him possibly a good paring with Outmaneuver.
