Echo bends when s/he decloaks, hence the alternation.

It's Schrodinger's Phantom. You can only determine Echo's gender when s/he climbs out of the cockpit and the probabilities resolve, prior to that Echo is equally male and female.

Personally I'm quite happy to have a bit of variety in the pilots. My automatic asumption was that Echo was female, but that is due to the etymology of the name (which means I automatically assume anyone described as a "hero" is also female, due to the story of Hero and Lysander)- I'm quite happy to admit that is extremely tenuous though.

Now the Stay on Target Preview is calling Whisper 'She'.

Echo: Male or Female, or Male to Female?

You're right, that article did refer to her as a he... that was a guest writer

So we have a FAQ that calls Echo a she, and the official Preview, plus a second article that even though it was written by Niel still had to be approved by FFG refers to Echo as he.

Again I don't really care one way or the other because it makes no difference. Neither Echo or Whisper exist in any fluff so their gender doesn't matter in the least. If Echo is a woman it still doesn't matter to me.

But the facts are the facts, and it is not just the article by a guest writer that calls Echo a he.

I don't want to make any sexist stereotype conclusions, but have you seen the way Echo drives out of a decloak?

I was playing Echo last night at a friendly match at my FLGS, and two female gamers there (there was a M:TG tournament going on and they were between matches) thought it was pretty cool when I referred to Echo as "her ship". Having a female pilot in the game, one that they knew wasn't Princess Leia, really tweaked their interest.

So yes, it's a good thing.

Let's not forget about the O.T.G. (Original TIE Girl).
