Echo: Male or Female?

By Explosive Ewok, in X-Wing

So here we go again.

In the preview article for the Phantom FFG released prior to Wave 4, Echo was referred to as he, while Whisper remained a mystery.

In the next article, written specifically on Echo, this time by a guest writer, we see Echo referred to as he once again.

It specifically says 'she'.

Alright. In any written text from FFG they have to refer to both the player and the pilot. In a perfect world, the player's sex would remain ambiguous while the pilot would be referred to properly (Luke as he, Kath as she). This isn't a perfect world and FFG sometimes refers to the player as he. Big deal. Who cares.

The problem comes when you can mistake a reference to the pilot as a reference to the player. Here, however, they are obviously referring to Echo as she.

So, what now?

Come on guys.. thos is very simple.. in the red text it stated if 'Echo' .... then She must... then it stated if the Player... Or He...

I know others saw this.. it isn't confusing.. people just like to gripe...

Echo is a female.. end of sentence....

DATS WHAT U WANT TO BELIEVE KID !!!

Ummm .. No.. that is exactly how it reads... end of discussion really.. it's simple english...

It really is that easy guys...

I think the issue is that a previous card/article said something different, ie. it had a male pronoun.

I'm fine with Echo being female. Also, to refer to the casting thread, let's have Eliza Dushku take on the role, seeing as she has experience with that call sign.

Echo: Male or Female, or Male to Female?

Maybe Echo is hermaphroditic, like strills.

You're right, that article did refer to her as a he... that was a guest writer and ... yes .. FFG let it slide.. possibly they don't care..

Honestly I don't care either.. it does seem to make a difference to some...

All I did was state what the red print mentions.. and that was offical.. from FFG...

Well I think official rules update trumps guest writer, it should come as no surprise the noble forces of the empire promote based on skill rather than gender, the rebel scrum may reduce their women to mere objects of desire but not the proud imperial forces.

And they said sentence diagrams wouldn't be of any worth when I grew up. Who is laughing now? ....Mua hah ha ha ..choke ...cough..ha...

Can't we contact someone at FFG to ask for certain?

This only matters in terms of fluff. But if an artist designed a character to be male or female I personally like to respect the artist and consider the character the same.

Not needed.. there is no art work of the pilot... and.. as per the info in the FAQ she.. is definitely female.

I'm happy to wait for resolution when we get our alternate art echo cards.

Just like Krassis... Which means absolute nothing.

Just like most ship cards... your point... same thing..

Look.. its obvious from the text in the FAQ...

People need to get over themselves... its a pilot.. call it male or fenale, but be prepared to be corrected should you call her a male..

Based off of Echo's unparalled abilities to weave in and out of a crowded playing field, I always imagined Echo as an old Chinese taxi driver.

Obviously male, somewhere in the 50s age wise, white button bown dress shirt, sunglasses on. Cigarette hanging out of his mouth as he lays on the horn and finds ways to cross lanes nobody else would have ever seen.

... and "Whisper" is female now too.

So say we all.

Wait. Wrong franchise.

You know what? Screw it. Boobs. Boobs for everyone. All of my pilots will now be referred to with female pronouns. I might even start putting Hello Kitty stickers on the backs of my cards.

Transgender is the way forward :D

Maybe when "She" cloaks, the cloaking device triggers a sex change and then "he" decloaks it changes back.

My wife says she won't play X-Wing with me even if I _do_ put hello kitty stickers on all my cards. :(

So instead we'll play Dominion, and hide the salami.

Oh! And league of Legends. That's fun too.

I find that amusing. If there's anything women like, it's perpetuating busty-lusty female video game stereotypes, right? Maybe she just likes staring at Miss Fortune's oversized pixelated lady parts as much as I do.

Best news ever! Thanks for posting this.

I'm so excited for wave 5!

Here's a better question... who really cares, and will it somehow affect your enjoyment of the game?

Thank you.

This whole "issue" is completely irrelevant. Tell you what, since FFG apparently can't decide, why don't you decide for them? Pick one. Accept that some people may have a different opinion and move on. It has no influence on the game whatsoever

Well, if you guys feel that way then there's no issue for you, is there?

Is it the biggest deal on the planet? YES!!

Oh. Wait.

The opposite of that.

No.

Despite that, I personally get a kick out of knowing a little about the pilots I fly, if you couldn't tell from that other thread I created. Also it gets kind of weird if you have a mirror match in a tournament; one person refers to Echo as he, the other as she.

Calling all coming out of the closet cliches!

He is now a she and she couldn't be happier!

I sincerely thank Fantasy Flight for finally giving transsexuals the representation they deserve in the table top gaming world :-P

I'm happy to wait for resolution when we get our alternate art echo cards.

What would be awesome is if they printed two different alternate art cards, just to REALLY mess with people.

Anyone notice that the guest author for the stay on target article referred to whisper as a she as well?

So... Dread Pirate Roberts?
