Flachette Torps + Munitians Falsafe = recurring stress combo?

By The_Brown_Bomber, in X-Wing Rules Questions

if i miss with the Flacette Torps, [and i have munitians failsafe] they still get stress? and i can use the torps again?

Regardless of whether you miss or not, the Flechette Torpedo ability is applied after the attack has been performed.

So yes, you can.

Flechette's stress function works after "performing the attack". Mu.Fa. does not alter the attack but only the discard requirement if it.

I would say that yes, if the attack missed you get to keep the flechettes but they still trigger the stress as that occurs after the attack has been performed.

Confirmed and updated in the new FAQ:

"If a ship equipped with Munitions Failsafe and Flechette
Torpedoes misses when firing Flechette Torpedoes at a
target with hull value ‘4’ or lower, the defender receives
1 stress token and the Flechette Torpedoes are
not discarded"

*Sigh* I don't like how they decided to rule it. Not from a strict rules PoV, which makes sense... But more from a 'common sense viewpoint'.

If the stress by a flechette torpedo is induced by its shrapnel explosion... Then, a torpedo that is not fired (munitions failsafe) should not produce any stress, since there is no detonation, to begin with.

But I guess they decided to go with the 'common sense inconsistency' to provide more consistency to the overall rules, which should be fine, after all...

If the stress by a flechette torpedo is induced by its shrapnel explosion...

Then perhaps the stress is not caused by the shrapnel explosion

Perhaps the bleeping threat warning receiver is enough to cause a pilot stress when the ship detects the targeting frequency of a flechette torpedo?

The ships, thematically, carry more than just one single torpedo. Most stats say 8 to 10 on Wookiepedia. I think of these going off more like a flak barrage. Annoying as hell, I'd think, to fly though and it takes all your attention to do it, but not enough to actually damage your ship.

Meh, it works. It makes ordinance more attractive to me to use. I like it.

Maybe, that's why ships with 5 hull points or more aren't affected. When they detect a Flechette torpedo incoming, their cockpit plays "The girl from Ipanema" in lieu of those stressing alarms and sirens...

That just means that you can fire a pair of them at range three through asteroids and then can slam the enemy straight into the asteroids on a stress forced move... or right off the map.

If the Ion blasts don't get you, the flechette torpedo's will. This is truly Haywire Flight.
