Why VI on Howlrunner? She will have a huge target on her so if anything I would go for a defensive upgrade. I never use howl's focus for attack just defense. I would drop the HLC and go for PTL on howl and an Ion on rex.

I'm always wary of using Howl with less than three other ships in tow, otherwise she's just not worth the investment. I'm not going to tell you what I think you should run, but I will share what I would do:

37 Rexler Brath

4 Engine Upgrade

3 Predator

18 Howlrunner

2 Swarm Tactics

12 Academy Pilot x3

If you're really dead set on the HLC, dial it back to one of the generic Defenders and use the extra points to upgrade your mini-swarm.

I'm looking at a couple of players that love the Rebels named X-Wing pilots with the highest PS they can. Plus I'm short one TIE for that option.

I like it! VI on HR gives PS 10 iirc, which means potency against Phantoms. Rexler and HLC is just plain nasty to begin with, adding Predator should help insure hits getting through.

The only thing I question is the two BSPs with Outmaneuver...for the same points they could be replaced with Mauler and another named Tie pilot, possibly with one upgrade on one or the other...

I guess I'm saying I don't see 6 pts of Outmaneuver useful...at least in my limited experience.

Have you tried running a Firespray with Rebel Captive against them? Firesprays can be potent esp with RC.

PS 10 with only a two dice gun will not scare off any phantoms.

You'd be better off with swarm tactics IMHO.

Then I'd just go with another named TIE instead of Howl, like Mauler Mithel.

Got a Firespray, but not a Rebel Captive card. I did ponder over a list with Krassis + HLC + Gunner and a couple of the named TIEs. Still haven't dismissed the idea.

Gunner is likely to be a waste on Krassis + HLC. Consider Recon Spec instead.

I have been flying a variation of the first list, namely:

Rexler /w HLC, VI

Howlrunner /w VI

Academy Pilot x3

In two games now (out of 8) Howlie & Rexler, combined were able to bring down a PS 9/8 before it got to fire.

In the first game, the target was Whisper and Howlie got the kill.

For one point VI isn't terrible, or the end of the world and it can make a huge difference.

Personally I prefer Determination for the 1 point upgrade on Howlie but VI is by no means bad.

You really don't want to remove the HLC from rexler four shots at range three against something like the falcon is lethal especially once shields are out of the way, you stick the Canon on a ps 1 defender you won't get anything like the performance.

Trust me I've seen what he can do when he shoots first.

I tried something similar yesterday, except I gave Rexler Outmaneuver as well and had Backstabber+Stealth instead of Howlrunner. Worked pretty well for the most part, just hampered by some bad flying on my part and a lack of cooperation from my dice.

While I'd rather put it on Brath, I do think that Outmaneuver is important in today's meta because of the heavy use of falcons and 3PO. Howlrunner isn't particularly useful, imo, in this list with two ships, especially two ships with outmaneuver. She makes them more predictable. She's also not a good phantom counter since she just doesn't have the dice to do much to it even if she gets a shot. The better option for this is Mithel with VI if you're using a TIE.

With that in mind, I'd teak the original list to look like this instead:

Brath, Outmaneuver+HLC

Alpha Sq. (more consistent firepower and a nice blocker)

BSP x2 with Predator (more consistent damage from these two), and/or you could change one to Backstabber.

Personally, I think HLC on Brath is just too good to pass up. The long range power is amazing on a high AGI, high mobility, high PS platform. I also think that any group of TIE Fighters without Backstabber is a mistake. I figure that if the other player decides to go after Brath and not your swarm, you might as well get the cheapest 3-4 dice attack in the game. PS6 is a nice bonus.

Brath's white K-turn is really nice for getting him away to range 2 or 3 and still having an action available too.

Only thing I would change is dropping Howl like others have said and using Backstabber. Then maybe throw a HU or SD on Brath. Backstabber plus 2 BSP with Outmaneuver will put hurting on your opponent if he decides to turn to engage Brath first.

Rexler Brath must choose to use his pilot ability after resolving any faceup damage cards dealt by his attack.
